Oct. 23 All-Nations Football Conference Roundup: Tiospa Zina rallies past Lower Brule, advances to Class 9B semifinals

Tiospa Zina 40, Lower Brule 34

LOWER BRULE — Trailing 34-20, Tiospa Zina’s Eric Jens Jr. took matters into his own hands on Friday.

The senior scored three late touchdowns as the Wambdi rallied past Lower Brule for an entertaining 40-34 victory in the Class 9B All-Nations Football Conference playoffs.

Jens Jr. scored a 24-yard touchdown run, and a 62-yard touchdown run on 4th down, evening the score at 34-34. Jens Jr. scored the game-winning touchdown after Tiospa Zina had the ball at Lower Brule’s one-yard line.

Jens Jr. fumbled the snap, recovered it and scampered for the game-winning touchdown with 1:18 left.

Tiospa Zina’s Ohitika Black Thunder, Robert Renville and Jaryus Goodsell added touchdown runs. Tyler Flute had an interception on defense.

For Lower Brule, Kristian Antelope scored on a pick-six and punt return, which gave the Sioux a 28-12 advantage. Ethan Thigh scored two touchdown runs, while Darius LaRoche added a rushing touchdown.

Tiospa Zina will play at White River on Oct. 30 in the Class 9B semifinals.

Mahpiya Luta 64, Little Wound 14

PINE RIDGE — Mahpiya Luta’s Jesse Carlow combined for eight touchdowns as No. 3 Mahpiya Luta defeated No. 6 Little Wound in the quarterfinals of the Class 9A All-Nations football playoffs on Friday. ML will play No. 2 Winnebago on Oct. 30 in the semifinals.

Carlow led the Crusaders with five rushing touchdowns and a passing touchdown, adding two more scores receiving as well. Carlow hit Memphis Brewer for a 20-yard touchdown while Kendal LeBeau and Hunter Big Crow each hit Carlow for a pair of trick play touchdown passes as well. Big Crow sealed the win for ML with a 71-yard pick six.

For LW, Baylor Clifford had a seven-yard touchdown pass to Mathius O’Rourke while Henry Clifford added a nine-yard touchdown run in the loss.

Mahpiya Luta will play at Winnebago on Oct. 30 in the Class 9A semifinals.

Lakota Tech 52, Cheyenne-Eagle Butte/Tiospaye Topa 18

PINE RIDGE — Lakota Tech captured its sixth consecutive victory in Class 9A All-Nations Football Conference playoff action on Friday.

The Tatanka, playing its first season in the All-Nations Football Conference, improved to 6-3 after beginning the season with a 0-3 record. Lakota Tech will play at Todd County on Oct. 30 in the Class 9A semifinals.

Walthill (Neb.) 64, Marty 14

MARTY — Walthill (Neb.) topped Marty in Class 9B All-Nations Football Conference action on Friday.

The Blujays will play at Dupree/Takini in the Class 9B semifinals on Oct. 30.
