Cardinals knock off Angels; Raptors keep rolling

MITCHELL — There will be a new champion in Class B. Flandreau knocked off the two-time defending champion Alexandria 5-4 to send the Cardinals to Saturday’s semifinal.

The Angels left 16 runners on base including three times in which Alexandria had the bases loaded and still couldn’t get the timely hit.

Jacob Patterson, Keith Cutler and Drew Demers led Flandreau with two hits each. Bret Stevenston picked up the win after coming in for Zach Weinandt in the fourth. Stevenson pitched 4 1/3 innings, giving up one run on four hits. He struck out six and walked one before handing the ball off to Dallas Schneiderman, who pitched the ninth, striking out one to earn the save.

Tyson Gau led Alexandria with two hits, while Jed Schmidt took the loss. Schmidt pitched five innings, giving up five runs on six hits. He struck out six and walked one.

Flandreau will meet Dimock-Emery in Saturday’s semifinals after the Raptors kept rolling with a 7-3 win over Plankinton F&M Bankers.

Drew Kitchens led the Dimock with three hits, while Luke Bamberg, Phil Johnson and Sam Michels added two hits each.

Johnson pitched a complete game giving up three runs on eight hits. He struck out seven and walked one.

Josh Engquist, Cole Knippling and Josh Geppert led the Bankers with two hits each.

Travis Gant took the loss, pitching 7 1/3 innings, giving up seven runs on 12 hits. He struck out three and walked two.
