Girls state cross-country roundup: Northwestern's Ella Boekelheide captures Class B championship
Northwestern's Ella Boekelheide won the Class B girls cross-country title on Saturday at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls.

SIOUX FALLS -- Kimball/White Lake captured its second consecutive Class B girls cross-country title on Saturday.

The WiLdKats scored 26 points at Yankton Trail Park and edged Potter County (29) for the title. KWL’s Autumn Baker paced the team title with a second-place finish in 19-minutes and :41.58 seconds. Christine Gaulke (20:23.15) and Lily Baker (20:58.31) placed 11th and 21st, respectively. 

Northwestern eighth-grader Ella Boekelheide captured the individual title in 19:39.44. Boekelheide finished sixth at last year’s state meet.

Arlington’s Kaelyn Ulschmid (19:53.29) and Freeman Academy/Marion’s Jada Koerner (19:58.57) finished third and fourth, respectively. Highmore-Harrold’s Autumn Fallis (19:59.20) placed fifth. In the team standings, Aberdeen Christian (44), Ipswich (45) and Arlington (63) rounded out the top-five.

Custer girls win fifth title since 2015

SIOUX FALLS -- Custer claimed its fifth Class A girls cross-country championship since 2015 on Saturday.

The Wildcats scored 42 points and finished 28 points ahead of second-place Chamberlain (70). Custer also recently won state titles in 2015, ‘16, ‘18 and ‘19. 

Sioux Falls Christian’s Ellie Maddox won the individual title in 18:44.83. Custer’s Ramsey Karim (18:51.54) placed second, while Sioux Valley’s Isabelle Bloker (18:53.75) finished third. Chamberlain’s Kinsey Evans (18:57.67) and Custer’s Kadense Dooley (18:59.74) rounded out the top-five.

O’Gorman’s Alea Hardie repeats as Class AA champ

SIOUX FALLS -- Sioux Falls O’Gorman’s Alea Hardie won her third consecutive Class AA cross-country championship on Saturday. 

Hardie covered the 5,000-meter distance in 17:31.28 to secure the three-peat. With Hardie leading the way, O’Gorman won its second straight team championship with 52 points. 

O’Gorman’s Libby Castelli (17:48.22) and Ruth Pardy (18:25.42) finished third and fourth, respectively. Sioux Falls Lincoln’s Ali Bainbridge (17:41.60) finished second, while Brandon Valley’s Mia Wentzy (18:28.02) took fifth.

In the team standings, Sioux Falls Lincoln (87) and Rapid City Stevens (89) took second and third, respectively. Brandon Valley (90) and Harrisburg (166) rounded out the top-five.
