GILLETTE, Wyo. — Custer bull rider Jestyn Woodward scored a 78 during his first go-round of the National High School Finals Rodeo to highlight action from Team South Dakota.

Lawrence, who hails from Alzada, Montana, but is representing Team South Dakota, had the top score in the first performance of the reined cow horse competition putting up 292.5 points.

Landry Haugen of Sturgis finished second in her performance of the girls cutting while Martin’s Isabel Risse was fourth in her performance in the goat tying competition. 

The rodeo, which features more than 1,650 athletes from across the country, began Sunday evening and continued into Monday morning. Not every athlete from South Dakota has performed yet with the next performance scheduled for 7 p.m. MST Monday evening.
