July 28 Legion Baseball Roundup - Mitchell Post 18 tops Post 22, stays undefeated in Class A tourney play

Mitchell Post 18 8, Rapid City Post 22 2

RAPID CITY — Mitchell Post 18 topped perennial power Rapid City Post 22 in Class A Legion baseball tourney action on Friday. Post 18 now plays Sioux Falls Post 15 East on Friday. 

Landon Waddell allowed two hits and struck out six batters through his 6.1-inning start. 

Seth Muth and Dylan Soulek led Mitchell Post 18 with two hits, while Soulek added three RBI. Mitchell plated three runs in second and four more in the sixth to power the win.

Wyatt Anderson took the loss, giving up four runs on five hits in five innings, while striking out four.

Ryker Henne and Alexander Dietrich each had one hit and one RBI to lead Post 22.

Post 22 committed four errors. Rapid City Post 22 plays Pierre Post 8 on Friday. 


Sioux Falls Post 15 East 3, Brookings Post 74 1

RAPID CITY — Sioux Falls Post 15 East scored three runs in the first inning and held off the Brookings Post 74 Bandits for a win at the Class A Legion baseball tournament on Thursday. Sioux Falls Post 15 East will play Mitchell Post 18 on Friday.

Tate Schafer led Post 15 East on the hill, giving up seven hits and one run in four innings, while striking out five.

Jack Smith led Post 15 East with two hits in four at bats. Ethan Bruns and Andrew Glovich finished with two and one RBI, respectively.

Nathan Lease took the loss for Brookings Post 74, pitching seven innings and surrendering five hits and three runs, while striking out three.

Parker Winghart, Lincoln Hardin, and Henry Hammrich led Brookings with two hits apiece.

Brookings Post 74 will play Harrisburg Post 45 on Friday.


Pierre Post 8 7, Brandon Valley Post 131 6

RAPID CITY — Jayden Wiebe’s double in the eighth inning scored one run to allow Pierre Post 8 to edge Brandon Valley Post 131 at the Class A Legion baseball tournament on Thursday. Pierre Post 8 plays Rapid City Post 22 on Friday.

Wiebe finished with two hits and one RBI, while Matthew Hanson led Pierre with three hits and three RBI. Lincoln Kienholz added two RBI.

Isaac Polak earned the win for Pierre Post 8, allwoing zero runs on zero hits in ⅔ of an inning, while striking out one and walking one. Bennett Dean started the game for Pierre, giving up three hits and two runs in 3 ⅓ innings, while striking out one.

Matt Brown took the loss for Brandon Valley Post 131, surrendering two runs on three hits and striking out two in 2 ⅔ innings. Nick Hokenstad started the game for Brandon Valley, allowing two runs on five and striking out four in 4 ⅓ innings.

Logan Kelling and Austin Reiter led Brandon Valley with two hits apiece, while Reiter also had four RBI.


Harrisburg Post 45 4, Rapid City Post 320 2

RAPID CITY — Harrisburg Post 45 doubled up the Rapid City Post 320 Stars for a win at the Class A Legion baseball tournament on Thursday. Harrisburg Post 45 plays Brookings Post 74 on Friday.

Braxton Kusler led Harrisburg on the mound, allowing six hits and two runs in seven innings, while striking out three and walking one.

Lincoln Carlson led Harrisburg with two hits in three at bats, while Maddux Scherer had two RBI.

Jett Wetzler took the loss for the Post 320 Stars, allowing six hits and four runs in six innings, while striking out four.

Gavyn Dansby led Post 320 with two hits in three at bats and one RBI.
