Mount Vernon/Plankinton track and field teams sweep Region 5A titles

WAGNER — Mount Vernon/Plankinton captured both team titles at Thursday’s Region 5A track and field meet.

The MVP boys finished with 168.5 points, just edging past Hanson (167) for the team title. The Titan girls racked up 173 points, followed by Ethan/Parkston (141.5).

On the boys side, Reed Rus won the high jump (6-4), while he placed second in the 110-meter hurdles (:15.11) and 300-meter hurdles (:42.93). MVP’s Reece Risseeuw won the 110-meter hurdles in :15.02 seconds. 

MVP’s Jordan Stoltz earned a first-place finish in the triple jump (41-2). 

Bon Homme’s Isaac Crownover was a double winner in the 100-meter dash (:10.98) and 200-meter dash (:22.84). 

Hanson won the 400-meter relay, 800-meter relay, 1,600-meter relay and sprint medley relay. Hanson’s Colton Dillon set the school record in the shot put (52-11.75), while he also placed first in the discus (137-10). Hanson’s Sutton Dewald won the 400-meter dash (:52.94). 

On the girls side, MVP’s Berkeley Engelland claimed first-place finishes in the 100-meter dash (:12.59), 200-meter dash (:26.08), 400-meter dash (:57.78) and the 800-meter run (2:15.60). 

Abigail Engelland placed first in the 3,200-meter run (12:56.85). Clara Fink finished first in the shot put (38-11). MVP also won the sprint medley relay. 

Ethan/Parkston’s Ella Pollreisz (1,600-meter run) and Ashlyn Tapio (discus) earned first-place finishes. Ethan/Parkston also won the 800-meter relay and 3,200-meter relay.
