Winner 32, Deuel 8 

WINNER — Class 11B’s No. 1 ranked team started slowly then scored 32 unanswered points to earn a quarterfinal win over Deuel in high school football action Thursday night. It was Winner’s 33rd consecutive victory.

Blake Volmer completed 4-of-5 passes for 84 yards and three touchdowns. Shawn Hammerbeck caught two passes for 34 yards and two touchdowns while Ethan Bartels caught a 28-yard scoring strike from Volmer. Aiden Barfuss paced the Winner rushing attack picking up 71 yards and a touchdown while Riley Orel and Jack Peters combined to rush for 78 yards. 

Owen Quail paced Deuel’s offense rushing for 103 yards and a touchdown. Braydon Simon led the defense with five tackles. 


Lyman 34, Castlewood 16

PRESHO — The Lyman Raiders grounded out 292 yards of total offense earning a win over Castlewood in the quarterfinals of the 9A football playoffs on Thursday. 

Teagan Gourneau led the Raiders, accounting for four touchdowns. The senior quarterback rushed for 76 yards and three touchdowns while throwing for 109 yards with one touchdown. Tance Wagner led Lyman with 99 yards rushing and a touchdown while Brayden Oldenkamp hauled in a touchdown pass. 

Lane Tvedt led Castlewood throwing for 160 yards and two touchdowns. Jeremiah Wiersma caught two passes for 60 yards and two touchdowns. 

 



Warner 48, Canistota 31

WARNER — Warner scored 34 unanswered points in the second half to earn a come-from-behind win over Canistota in Class 9A quarterfinal playoff action on Thursday.

Warner’s Hunter Cramer passed for 124 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 122 yards and two more scores. Brodey Sauerwein passed for 70 yards and one touchdown, while adding two rushing touchdowns. Zach Wood led with 92 receiving yards and one touchdown, while Payton Volk and Ashton Schuchhardt each had one receiving touchdown. Devin Woosley led the defense with three sacks.

Canistota’s Tage Ortman passed for 190 yards and one touchdown, while rushing for 95 yards and one touchdown. Noah Kleinsasser rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns, while adding 55 yards receiving and nine tackles on defense. Cayden Scott had 87 yards receiving and one touchdown, while leading the defense with 11 tackles. Levi Schroeder added 8.5 tackles on defense and one interception.

Gregory 34, Wolsey-Wessington 19

GREGORY — Gregory piled up 381 total yards and picked up a Class 9A playoff win over conference foe Wolsey-Wessington on Thursday. The Gorillas rushed for 261 yards and passed for another 120 yards in the win. 

Gregory’s Rylan Peck rushed for 175 yards on 12 carries and scored two touchdowns. Kade Stukel added 55 rushing yards, while Owen Hansen scored a rushing touchdown. Peck completed 7 of 17 passes for 120 yards and threw two passing touchdowns. Eli Fogel and Kade Braun had touchdown receptions. Trey Murray posted 10 tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery. Peck added nine tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery. 

Wolsey-Wessington racked up 251 total yards. Blaze Herdman connected with Moshe Richmond for three touchdown receptions.


Elkton-Lake Benton 52, Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy 14

ELKTON — Elkton-Lake Benton amassed 522 total yards and cruised past Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy for a Class 9AA quarterfinal round win on Thursday.

Elkton-Lake Benton’s Ryan Krog went 4-for-5 passing for 224 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing for 122 yards and three more scores. Carson Griffith led with 103 receiving yards and one touchdown, while Quinten Poindexter and Blake DeVries each added one receiving touchdown. Riddick Westley rushed for 98 yards, while Colt Beck added one rushing touchdown.

Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy’s Riley Tschetter passed for 84 yards, while Maddox Kihne led with 38 receiving yards. Evan Scharberg rushed for two touchdowns.

 

Hamlin 26, Hanson 20 (OT)

HAYTI — Hamlin’s Luke Fraser scored a 20-yard touchdown run in overtime and the Chargers held off Hanson for a Class 9AA quarterfinal round win on Thursday.

Fraser finished with 95 rushing yards and the winning score, while Evan Stormo had 127 yards receiving on five catches and one touchdown. Stormo also added one rushing touchdown. Tyson Stevenson passed for 164 yards and one touchdown, while adding one rushing touchdown. Cristhian Rodriguez led with 10 tackles on defense.

Hanson’s Jayce Slaba passed for 162 yards and two touchdowns, while Jackson Jarding rushed for 148 yards and one touchdown. Riley Haynes had 113 receiving yards and one touchdown, while Ethan Cheeseman added a receiving touchdown.

 



Wall 20, Bon Homme 12

WALL — Wall outlasted Bon Homme for a Class 9AA quarterfinal round playoff win on Thursday.

Wall’s Burk Blasius passed for 200 yards and one touchdown. Cedar Amiotte rushed for 63 yards and two touchdowns, while adding 78 yards receiving. Stran Williams added one receiving touchdown.

Bon Homme’s Riley Rothschadl passed for 141 yards and one touchdown, while rushing for 108 yards and one score. Chapin Cooper had 48 receiving yards and one touchdown catch. Landon Bares led the defense with 9.5 tackles.




Herreid/Selby Area 44, Avon 14

HERREID — Herreid/Selby Area racked up 412 total yards en route to a Class 9B quarterfinal playoff win on Thursday.

HSA’s Brenden Begeman rushed for 167 yards on 19 carries and scored three rushing touchdowns, while adding 115 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Tray Hettick passed for 146 yards and two touchdowns, while Mason Vetter added 97 rushing yards and one touchdown. Nathan Bradford led the defense with 8.5 tackles.

Avon’s Paxton Bierema passed for 67 yards and one touchdown, while adding one rushing touchdown. Cade Faulkton rushed for 66 yards, while adding 36 receiving yards and one touchdown. Brady Bierema rushed for 48 yards.  


Harding County/Bison 20, Philip 15

BUFFALO — Harding County/Bison improved to 8-2 on the season with a win over Philip in the Class 9A quarterfinals on Thursday. 

Kelby Hett paced the Ranchers passing for 216 yards with three touchdowns. Rylee Veal finished with 180 yards rushing for Harding County. Receiver Gage Gilbert caught six passes for 152 yards and a touchdown with Braden Routier and Kaden Green also catching touchdown passes from Hett. Grey Gilbert led the Harding County defense with 13 tackles including four tackles for loss. 

Philip was led by Layton Terkildsen who finished with 126 yards rushing while Ryker Peterson added 87 yards on the ground. Jess Jones completed 7-of-15 passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Samuel Hand caught five passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns. 

 


 

Hot Springs 28, Aberdeen Roncalli 0

ABERDEEN — Hot Springs handed Aberdeen Roncalli its first defeat of the season in the Class 11B quarterfinals on Thursday.

Hot Springs rushed for 442 yards on 53 carries. Landon Iverson and Preston Iverson scored two rushing touchdowns apiece to power the Bison. Landon Iverson rushed for 191 yards, while Preston Iverson added 186 rushing yards. Camron Maciejewski added 65 rushing yards. Dylan Webb racked up six tackles. 

Aberdeen Roncalli’s Maddox May had 87 rushing yards on 15 carries. Jackson Isakson threw for 129 yards. Phillip Zens posted 11 tackles.

 



Elk Point-Jefferson 42, Redfield 0

ELK POINT — Elk Point-Jefferson improved to 10-0 on the season with a shutout win over Redfield in the Class 11B quarterfinals on Thursday.

Lucas Hueser paced the Huskies rushing for 80 yards and scoring three touchdowns. Devon Schmitz finished with 21 yards rushing and a touchdown. Noah McDermott finished with 123 yards passing and a touchdown while adding 42 yards rushing for Elk Point-Jefferson. Jakob Scarmon caught three passes for 43 yards including a 19-yard touchdown reception while Hunter Geary scored on a 25-yard interception return. 

Mason Whitley led Redfield rushing for 36 yards. Keaton Rohlfs had one reception for 43 yards. 


McCook Central/Montrose 38, Mount Vernon/Plankinton 6

SALEM — McCook Central/Montrose used a strong second half to earn a Class 11B playoff win over Mount Vernon/Plankinton on Thursday in Salem. 

Boston Katzer led the Fighting Cougars completing 18-of-28 passes for 271 yards and three touchdowns. Receiver Will Cleveland caught eight passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns with Ty Doblar snaring the other touchdown pass for McCook Central/Montrose. Cleveland led the defense with 10.5. 

Reed Rus led Mount Vernon/Plankinton rushing for 94 yards and a touchdown just before the end of the first half. Rus finished with 8.5 tackles, a sack and two tackles for loss on the night. 

 

Hitchcock-Tulare 52, Dell Rapids St. Mary 0

HITCHCOCK — Hitchcock-Tulare blanked Dell Rapids St. Mary in Class 9B playoff action on Thursday. 

The Patriots rushed for 183 yards and four touchdowns, while passing for 147 yards and three more scores.

Hitchcock-Tulare’s Erik Salmen rushed for 90 yards on 13 carries and scored two touchdowns. Carter Binger and Landon Puffer added rushing touchdowns. Binger completed 9 of 10 passes for 147 yards and threw three passing touchdowns. T.J. Salmen hauled in 52 receiving yards and had a touchdown reception. Puffer added two receiving touchdowns. T.J. Salmen had three tackles, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble. Mason Bottum intercepted a pass on defense.

The Cardinals were held to 21 rushing yards and 29 passing yards. No individual stats were reported.


West Central 35, Madison 6

HARTFORD — West Central rushed for over 200 yards Thursday earning a win over Madison in the first round of the 11A playoffs. 

Jesse Jost rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown while Justin Zirpel and Aiden Bartmann combined for 97 yards on the ground. Zirpel completed 14-of-17 passes for 141 yards and three touchdowns. Dylan Stromer, Crew Heier and Owen Heath all had touchdown receptions for the Trojans. 

Bruce Galde led Madison rushing for 40 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Ben Brooks found Shane Veehhof for seven catches and 44 yards of receiving for Madison. 

 

Dell Rapids 41, Lennox 7

DELL RAPIDS — Dell Rapids raced past Lennox for a Class 11A quarterfinal round win on Thursday.

Dell Rapids was led by Mason Stubbe with 177 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Brayden Pankonen added two rushing touchdowns, while also recording 66 yards receiving and one touchdown. Jack Henry passed for 78 yards and one touchdown.

Lennox stats were not available.


Tea Area 41, Watertown 0

SIOUX FALLS — Tea Area blanked Watertown to earn a win in the first round of the 11AA football playoffs Thursday night. 

Chase Van Tol had a big night for the Titans finishing with 139 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Blake Thompson added 83 yards on the ground for Tea Area. Matt Halbur recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown for Tea Area. 

Watertown’s Juven Hudson rushed for 30 yards for the Arrows while Austin Johnson had seven tackles to lead the defense.

 

Aberdeen Central 34, Spearfish 7

ABERDEEN — Aberdeen Central rushed for over 200 yards Thursday earning a win over Spearfish in the Class 11AA football playoffs. 

Karson Carda led the Golden Eagles with 149 yards and two touchdowns. Tate Huff and Dustin Hermansen also had rushing touchdowns to lead Aberdeen Central. Will Heinert and Max Leverman led the defense, each athlete recording four solo tackles. 

Spearfish was led by Bridger Niehaus who finished with 52 yards rushing. Quarterback Seth Hamilton finished with 54 yards passing and one touchdown pass, a 35-yarder to Dylon Doren. Brady Hatwig led the Spearfish defense with 12 solo tackles. 


Harrisburg 42, Sioux Falls Roosevelt 12

HARRISBURG — Harrisburg raced past Sioux Falls Roosevelt for a Class 11AAA quarterfinal playoff win on Thursday.

Harrisburg’s Gavin Ross rushed for 176 yards, while adding 32 receiving yards. Dylan Elrod passed for 110 yards and three touchdowns. 

Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Jaxsen Grevengoed rushed for 59 yards, while adding 29 yards receiving and one touchdown catch.
