Warner's Ava Nilsson named to fourth consecutive Class B volleyball all-state first-team

For a fourth consecutive season, Warner’s Ava Nilsson is a member of the Class B volleyball all-state first-team, as selected by the South Dakota Volleyball Coaches Association.

Nilsson, a junior, powered the Monarchs to their second straight state championship in Sioux Falls on Nov. 19. Nilsson is joined on the first team by Burke’s Adisyn Indahl, Northwestern’s Ella Haven, Wolsey-Wessington’s Mya Boomsma, Chester Area’s Lily VanHal and Colman-Egan’s Daniela Lee. In addition to Nilsson, Haven and Boomsma are repeat first-team selections. Indahl was a second team honoree last season. 

A setter, Nilsson recorded 1,167 assists, 250 digs, 94 kills, 63 aces and 61 blocks this season. For her career, Nilsson has 4,094 assists, 1,108 digs, 359 kills and 235 aces. 

Indahl logged 520 kills, 514 digs and 56 aces during her senior campaign. The outside hitter finished her career with 1,355 kills, 1,436 digs, 151 aces and 40 blocks. The Cougars placed fourth at the state tournament. 

Haven produced 670 kills, 59 aces, 316 digs and 68 blocks in her senior season. Haven and the Wildcats placed fifth at the state tournament. 

Boomsma recorded 417 kills, 414 digs and 55 aces for the Warbirds, who captured third in their first-ever trip to the state tourney. 

VanHal, a freshman, is the youngest player on the first-team this season. The setter/right side hitter finished this season with 391 kills, 82 aces, 289 digs and 588 assists. VanHal and the Flyers finished second at the state tournament. 

A 5-foot-5 junior outside hitter, Lee paced the Hawks with 268 kills and 150 blocks. Lee and Colman-Egan finished seventh at the state tournament.
