Ethan's Ava Lingemann headlines senior-heavy Class B girls all-state first team

Four decorated seniors headline this year’s Class B girls basketball all-state first team, which was chosen by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association.

The first team features seniors Ava Lingemann (Ethan), Skyler Volmer (Lyman), Paige Kjerstad (Wall) and Abby Aslesen (Howard). Juniors Addalyn Steffensen (Arlington) and Althea Gust (Centerville) round out the first team. 

Lingemann, who was selected as the Class B player of the year, is making her second straight all-state first-team selection. A 5-foot-6 guard, Lingemann led the Rustlers to a third-place finish at the state tourney, averaging 20.2 points and 7.7 assists per game. She was selected as the Class B Spirit of Su at the state tourney. Lingemann totaled 1,811 points, 445 assists and 347 3-pointers during her career. Lingemann will play college basketball at Dordt University.

A 5-foot-9 guard, Volmer was a third-team selection last season. The future University of North Dakota player led the Raiders to a fourth-place finish at state. The athletic guard averaged 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists per game, while logging 78 steals. Volmer racked up 1,653 points, 660 rebounds, 322 assists, 277 steals and 130 blocked shots in her career. 

A 5-foot-11 guard, Kjerstad is making her first all-state appearance. She paced the Eagles to a consolation championship at the Class B state tourney. Kjerstad averaged 15.4 points and 9.8 rebounds per game during her senior campaign. Kjerstad logged 1,024 points, 681 rebounds and 111 steals during her career.

A 5-foot-10 guard, Steffensen is making her first all-state selection. She paced the Class B runner-ups by averaging 16.2 points and six rebounds per game. Steffensen is also a career 1,000-point scorer. 

A 5-foot-10 guard, Gust is making her first all-state selection after leading Centerville to the state championship. She averaged 13.4 points and 3.5 assists per game, while also scoring her 1,000th career point this season.

Aslesen rounds out the first team, one year after earning second-team honors. A 6-foot forward, Aslesen averaged 21.1 points and 12.7 rebounds per game this season. She logged multiple double-doubles and blocked a school-record eight shots in a game this year. She finished with 1,211 career points (second in school history) and 816 rebounds (fourth in school history). She blocked a school-record 39 shots this season. She will play college basketball at Valley City State University.
