Dakota Valley 3, Mount Vernon/Plankinton 1

Sioux Falls - It took four sets but higher seeded Dakota Valley defeated Mount Vernon/Plankinton in first round action at Thursday’s Class A state tournament. The set scores were 19-25, 25-22, 25-18 and 25-14. 

Powering Dakota Valley was Claire Munch who finished with 24 kills, three assists, 18 digs and two assisted blocks. Madelyn Munch dished out 48 assists while adding three kills, 15 digs and an assisted block. Samantha Kimbell added 16 kills and 25 digs while Emerson Mead chipped in with five kills, five aces and eight digs. 

Leading Mount Vernon/Plankinton was Reagan Rus with 19 kills, two aces, 16 digs and two assisted blocks. Madalynn Lorang had eight kills, two aces and 16 digs. Alyssa Johnson had 31 assists and 16 digs while Alexis Hauge had an ace and 17 digs.

Dakota Valley advanced to Friday’s semifinals where they will take on Sioux Falls Christian. Mount Vernon/Plankinton heads to consolation action where they will meet Miller. 


Sioux Falls Christian 3, Miller 0

SIOUX FALLS — Class A No. 8 seed Sioux Falls Christian made short work of top-seeded Miller sweeping the Rustlers in three sets. The set scores were 25-14, 25-17 and 25-11.

Powering the Chargers was Brietta Time who had 17 kills, an ace, eight digs and two assisted blocks. Addisen Barber dished out 28 assists to go along with four kills, two aces, 11 digs and an assisted block. Mulder finished with seven kills, two digs and an assisted block while Rachel Dieleman assisted with five blocks and a solo block. 

Miller’s Aleah Schlecter led the Rustlers with five kills, nine digs and two assisted blocks. Kaihlyn Anderberg added three kills and two digs while Paige Werdel contributed four kills, three aces and four digs. Jolie Palmer led with 10 kids while Gracen Werdel had two kills, an ace and six digs. 

Sioux Falls Christian advanced to Friday’s semifinals where they will take on Dakota Valley. Miller drops to the consolation round and will face off against Mount Vernon/Plankinton on Friday. 



Hamlin 3, Sioux Valley 1

SIOUX FALLS — Class A No. 2 Hamlin kept its state championship dreams alive after taking down No. 7 Sioux Valley during Thursday’s quarterfinal round of the State A volleyball tournament. The set scores were 25-15, 24-26, 25-15, and 25-23.

Addie Steffensen and Addison Neuendorf powered the Charger offense to victory, Steffensen tallied 20 kills, 15 digs, and four aces while Neuendorf recorded 19 kills, 16 digs and two aces. Jo Steffensen tallied eight kills, 14 digs and three aces, Issie Steffensen dished out 48 assists, 10 digs, and two kills, while Addelyn Jensen recorded six kills and one block in the win.

SV’s Kaedyn Sapp was efficient in the loss recording 18 kills and 10 digs, Machaela Gerasch tallied 19 assists and 12 digs, Caitlin Russell recorded 16 digs, Sunny Hesby had 17 assists,  while Keyra Kruse totaled five kills and four digs in the loss.

Hamlin advances to Friday’s state semifinals and will face No. 3 Dell Rapids at 6:45 p.m. while Sioux Valley moves into the consolation bracket where it will take on No. 6 Winner at 12:45 p.m.


Dell Rapids 3, Winner 0

SIOUX FALLS — Class A No. 3 Dell Rapids looked every bit the part sweeping No. 6 Winner in straight sets to advance to Friday’s semifinals. The set scores were 25-8, 25-18 and 25-11. 

Madelynn Henry led Dell Rapids with 18 kills, two assists, five aces, three digs and three assisted blocks. Sophi Randall finished with 26 assists, eight kills, two aces, six digs and three assisted blocks. Alaina Wolf managed nine assists and seven digs and Karlie Ingalls had six kills, an assists, three aces, five digs and two assisted blocks. 

Leading Winner was Keelie Kuil who finished with three kills, two aces and four digs. Payton Sargent had six kills and Livvy Audiss had a kill and a dig. Gracie Root finished with nine assists and six digs while Cora Moss had an assist, an ace and five digs. 

Dell Rapids advances to Friday’s semifinals where they will take on Hamlin at 6:45 p.m. while Winner and Sioux Valley will meet on Friday at 12:45 p.m.
