Alex Schumacher, Kinsey Evans claim titles at Chamberlain Invitational/Big Dakota Conference meet

OACOMA — Miller’s Alex Schumacher and Chamberlain’s Kinsey Evans earned individual titles at Thursday’s Chamberlain Invitational/Big Dakota Conference meet. 

Schumacher covered the 5,000-meter distance at the Chamberlain Country Club in 16 minutes and 40 seconds. Miller’s Pierce Baumberger (16:47) was just off the pace and finished second. 

Philip’s Wakely Burns (16:58), Potter County’s Nicholas Schlachter (17:13) and Philip’s Asher Peterson (17:23) rounded out the top-five runners.

Evans won the girls race in 19:40, finishing ahead of Mobridge-Pollock’s Heidi Olson (19:59). Kimball/White Lake’s Autumn Baker (20:14), Potter County’s Dannika Kaup (20:24) and Chamberlain’s Kylah Biggins (20:35) rounded out the top-five finishers. 

In the girls team standings, Chamberlain (12) won the title and finished ahead of a logjam of teams. Potter County (23), Kimball/White Lake (25) and Sioux Valley (27) finished second-through-fourth, respectively. Ethan/Parkston (72) placed fifth. 

In the boys team standings, Philip (15) nipped Miller (18) for the title. Ethan/Parkston (41), McLaughlin (62) and Sioux Valley (75) rounded out the top-five teams.
