Aug. 2 Amateur Baseball Roundup - Winner/Colome wraps up District 5B championship over Platte

Winner/Colome Pheasants 7, Platte Killer Tomatoes 3

PARKSTON — Winner/Colome won the District 5B amateur baseball championship on Friday.

Winner/Colome’s J.J. Farner struck out eight batters, allowed seven hits, two earned runs and walked three batters in 8.2 innings for the win. Farner added a hit. 

Chandler Bakley led Winner/Colome with four hits and drove in three runs. Trevor Salmonson added three hits and an RBI. Connor Hopkins had two hits, while Dillon Lambley drove in a run. Derek Graesser and Austin Calhoon added hits. 

For Platte, Mason Townsend had three hits and clubbed a home run. Grant Doom added two hits, while Sheldon Gant and Jarod Severson had hits. Travis Gant took the loss, allowing 10 hits, four earned runs, three walks and had three strikeouts in five innings. 


Salem Cubs 16, Colman A’s 6 (7 innings) 

CANOVA — Jon Forster collected three hits as Salem picked up a District 4B amateur baseball win on Friday, advancing to the Class B state amateur baseball tourney.

Forster drove in two runs for Salem, which racked up 12 hits. Jacob Vonberge, Kyle Braun and Tyler Cleveland had two hits apiece. Koepsell drove in three runs. Kyle Tuschen and Luke Loudenburg each drove in runs. Tyler Earls struck out seven batters, allowed 10 hits, five earned runs and walked one batter in seven innings. 

For Colman, T.J. Silliman had three hits and drove in two runs. Chase Dewitt had two hits and drove in two runs. Ian Barker took the loss, allowing 11 hits, five earned runs, two walks and struck out two batters in five innings. 


Dimock/Emery Raptors 11, Parkston Mudcats 5

PARKSTON — Dimock-Emery racked up 15 hits and qualified for the Class B state amateur baseball tournament on Friday.

Phil Johnson and Sam Pischke paced Dimock-Emery with three hits apiece, while Pischke drove in three runs. Johnson knocked in a run. Jason Schmidt and Josh Engquist had two hits and two RBIs apiece. Peyton Nash added two hits. Doug Sudbeck had a hit. Jason Schmidt struck out five batters, allowed eight hits, three earned runs and six walks in the seven-inning win. 

For Parkston, Ryan McGinnis had two hits and drove in two runs. Tyson Kogel added two doubles. Matt Malloy and Dylan Mogck each drove in runs. Losing pitcher Jake Weber allowed 10 hits, eight earned runs and struck out one batter in 1.2 innings. 


Hartford/Humboldt Gamecocks 9, Dell Rapids PBR 3

CANOVA — Cam Quigley had three hits as the Hartford/Humboldt Gamecocks advanced to the Class B state amateur baseball tournament on Friday.

Quigley drove in two runs, while Broc Haldeman had two hits and drove in two runs. Briggs Havlik added two hits. Joe Hanisch, Devon Garry and Chad Morrison also drove in runs. Cole Barthel earned the win, striking out five batters, allowing three earned runs, five hits and walking two batters in 6.1 innings.

For PBR, Zach Puetz hammered a two-run homer and Drew Sweeter knocked in a run. Losing pitcher Grant Sweeter allowed five hits, six earned runs, three walks and struck out zero batters in 4.1 innings. 


Northville Merchants 15, Groton Locke Electric 0 (7 innings) 

REDFIELD — Northville racked up 17 hits in a District 2B amateur baseball tournament win on Friday.

Northville’s Devon Fischbach and Jeremiah Maxfield had three hits apiece, while Maxfield drove in two runs. Greg Heyne drove in three runs. Ben Fischbach and Kyle Stahl had two hits apiece. Bryan Weber was tagged with the loss, allowing four hits and struck out two batters in 4.1 innings.

For Groton, Dylan Frey, Alex Morris, Johnny Celedonio and Anthony Sippel each had hits. Morris took the loss, allowing 14 hits, six earned runs, two walks and had three strikeouts in five innings. 


Elkton Snappers 4, Clark Traders 3

MILBANK — Elkton advanced to the Class B state amateur baseball tournament in District 1B tourney action on Friday.

Elkton’s Dylan Kuehl finished with two hits and an RBI. Jordan Beck drove in two runs, while Brady Steffen had an RBI. Dylan Gillespie earned the win with nine strikeouts, one earned run, five hits and two walks in seven innings.

For Clark, Wesley Jones had two hits and drove in a run. Bryce DesLauriers also drove in a run. Losing pitcher Hudson Fuller allowed four hits, two walks and struck out five batters in 3.1 innings. 


Brandon Valley Rats 10, Mitchell Aces 0 (7 innings)

RENNER — Brandon Valley blanked Mitchell in Class A district baseball action on Friday. 

Brandon Valley’s Dawson Mork finished with three hits, while Nick Hokenstad, Nate Meyers and Jackson Adams both drove in two runs apiece. Tate Ivers struck out six batters, allowed three hits, zero runs and walked four batters in seven innings.

For Mitchell, Carter Miller had two hits and Parker Mandel had the other hit. Losing pitcher Blake Brosz allowed seven hits, five earned runs, one walk and struck out five batters in 5.2 innings.


Renner Monarchs 1, Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels 0

RENNER — Jaxon Rosencranz solo home run lifted Renner over the Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels in Class A district baseball action Friday.

Rosencranz had two hits including the solo shot, while Tony Lanier, Chaz Palmer, and Nick Bartels each had hits, including doubles by Palmer and Lanier.

Jed Schmidt took the victory on the mound allowing seven hits and two walks in a complete game, striking out six.

For Sioux Falls, Dexter Payne allowed one run on five hits in eight innings, striking out three.

Seven different hitters tallied a hit in the loss for Sioux Falls, including doubles by Trevor Hurley and Zach Dibble.
