Aug. 29 Volleyball Roundup - No. 3 Wagner tops Mount Vernon/Plankinton in four-set match

Wagner 3, Mount Vernon/Plankinton 1

WAGNER — Class A No. 3 Wagner topped Mount Vernon/Plankinton in a four-set high school volleyball match on Tuesday. The set scores were 23-25, 25-10, 25-22 and 25-19.

Wagner’s Ashlyn Koupal logged 14 kills and 18 digs. Kya Kjeldgaard added 11 kills and 25 digs. Madi Knebel recorded 21 digs. Macy Koupal posted 38 assists and four aces. Shona Kocer recorded two aces and five blocks. 

For MVP, Reagan Rus and had 14 kills, 16 digs and three blocks. Berkeley Engelland finished with 18 digs, while Vanessa Hoffman added 14 assists and two aces. Clara Fink finished with two aces. 


Burke 3, Winner 0

BURKE — Class B No. 4 Burke swept Winner in a high school volleyball match on Tuesday. The set scores were 25-16, 25-14 and 25-18.

Burke’s Kailee Frank finished with 15 kills and 18 digs. Emmie Hausmann added nine kills, four digs and two aces. Ava Sargent tallied 13 assists, eight digs and two aces. Bridget Eliason posted 16 assists and six digs. Paige Bull recorded four kills and four blocks, while Elle Johnson added 17 digs. Piper Hanson added four kills, three aces and two blocks. 

For Winner, Keelie Kuil posted 16 digs and one one kill. Adyson Pravecek added 15 digs, while Lilly Barfuss finished with six blocks. Lexi Klein had 10 assists and Gracie Root recorded four assists. 


Dell Rapids 3, Elk Point-Jefferson 0

ELK POINT — Dell Rapids swept Class A No. 5 Elk Point-Jefferson in Tuesday high school volleyball action. The set scores were 25-20, 25-21 and 25-11.

Dell Rapids’ Madelynn Henry recorded 16 kills and four digs. Lauryn Kloth added 10 kills, while Kylee Fiddelke had three kills, three aces and seven digs. Clara Justice posted four kills. Sophi Randall posted two kills, four aces, seven digs, two blocks and 29 assists.

For Elk Point-Jefferson, Natalie Heuertz posted 13 kills and five blocks. Bentlee Kollbaum added three kills, three blocks and five digs. Courtney Brewer logged 25 assists, eight digs, three aces and two kills. Hannah Nearman recorded eight digs. 


Sioux Valley 3, Parker 0

VOLGA — Sioux Valley swept Parker in straight sets in high school volleyball action Tuesday. Set scores were 25-16, 25-11 and 27-25.

Allie Hofer led the Cossacks with eight kills and a block. Kaedyn Sapp led the team with 22 digs while also adding three kills. Sunny Hesby tallied 40 set assists to lead the offense.

Parker was led by Halle Berens who had eight kills and 14 digs. Mara Mohr had 10 set assists while Braelyn Berens added 13 kills for the Trojans. 


Groton Area 3, Ipswich 0

IPSWICH — Groton Area swept Ipswich in Tuesday high school volleyball play. The set scores were 25-22, 25-16 and 25-20.

Groton Area’s Anna Fjeldheim recorded 13 kills and eight digs. Sydney Leicht posted 18 digs and six kills. Lydia Meier had four kills, while Rylee Dunker posted six aces. Liz Fliehs finished with 23 assists.  

Ipswich’s Gabby Wald finished with five kills and three aces. Marley Guthmiller added seven kills. Kathryn Kilber posted 21 digs. 


Flandreau 3, Florence-Henry 0

HENRY — Flandreau swept Florence-Henry in straight sets in Tuesday high school volleyball action. The set scores were 25-21, 25-19 and 25-19.

Florence-Henry’s Caylin Kelly finished with 16 kills, 14 digs and two blocks. Kate Hulscher logged four kills, while Kaija Gusso posted 21 assists. Elizabeth Reiter had 11 digs. 

Flandreau stats were not reported.  


Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 3, Hanson 0

HANSON — Sanborn Central/Woonsocket swept Hanson in straight sets in Tuesday night volleyball action. The set scores were 26-24, 25-22 and 25-22. 

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket’s Liz Boschee finished with 10 kills and two blocks. Kenzie Schley finished with 14 set assists and 20 digs. Kenzie Baruth added seven kills while Kali Hofer had 18 digs. 

For Hanson, Kiana Berg finished with seven kills while Taziah Hawkins and Grace Arend each contributed five kills. Claire Bridge led with 13 digs while Cadence Jarding had 11 set assists, four digs and two aces. 


Parkston 3, Avon 2

AVON — Parkston defeated Avon in high school volleyball Tuesday in a match that went five sets. Set scores were 25-23, 15-25, 25-21, 22-25 and 15-10. 

Parkston was led by Mya Nuebel who had six aces, 18 kills and 30 digs. Avery Bogenreif dished out 38 set assists, 27 digs and two aces. Freshman Berkley Ziebert had three blocks and 22 digs while Lauren Ziebart added seven blocks and two aces. 

For Avon Courtney Sees had a big night finishing with 21 kills and 26 digs. McKenna Kocmich dished out 37 set assists and 24 digs. Macy Voight led the Pirates with three aces. 


Mobridge-Pollock 3, Herreid/Selby Area 0

SELBY — Mobridge-Pollock picked up a three-set high school volleyball win over Herreid/Selby Area on Tuesday. The set scores were 25-12, 25-22 and 25-21.

Mobridge-Pollock’s Charley Henderson finished with 11 kills, while Raelyn Aberle added eight kills and five digs. Katy Kemnitz posted five aces, while Sophia Overland added two aces. Kemnitz added 15 assists and Overland had eight assists. Reagan Weisbeck had a team-high 12 digs, while Ryli Thompson added seven digs. 

Herreid/Selby Area stats were not reported. 


Colman Egan 3, Arlington 0

ARLINGTON — Colman-Egan swept Arlington in straight sets in high school volleyball action Tuesday. Set scores were 25-22, 25-21 and 25-19. 

Colman-Egan’s Brynlee Landis led the Hawks with 12 kills and four blocks and 14 digs. Kaylee Voelker and Lanie Mousel dished out 22 and 19 set assists. Daniela Lee added 13 kills while Anna Zubart delivered seven kills.

For Arlington, Addie Steffensen had 12 kills, two blocks and ten digs. Issie Steffensen finished with 30 set assists and an ace. Harley Johnson added 15 digs. 


Tripp-Delmont/Armour 3, Menno 2

MENNO — Tripp-Delmont/Armour held on for a five-set victory over Menno in high school volleyball action Tuesday. Set scores were 13-25, 23-25, 13-25, 25-14 and 15-10. 

The Nighthawks were led by Megan Reiner who finished with eight kills, 16 digs and three aces. Morgan Gemar had 21 set assists, two blocks, four digs and two aces. Mia Reiner had five blocks and ten digs while Lori Decora had four blocks and four aces.

For Menno, Ashton Massey finished with 12 kills, one block and three digs. Joslynn Fischer added 17 set assists and 16 digs while Taylor Freier led the Wolves with 23 set assists. 


Platte-Geddes 3, Todd County 0

PLATTE — Platte-Geddes swept Todd County in straight sets in Tuesday night volleyball action. Set scores were 25-7, 25-13 and 25-11. 

Platte-Geddes senior Karly VanDerWerff led the Black Panthers with 13 kills, six digs and two aces. Baleigh Nachtigal dished out 29 set assists, had three kills, two digs and three aces. 

Cadence Van Zee added six kills and six digs while Halie Sprik had a kill and three aces. 

Todd County stats were not reported. 


Huron 3, Mitchell 2

MITCHELL — Huron outlasted Mitchell in a five-set high school volleyball match on Tuesday. The set scores were 25-20, 22-25, 25-17, 19-25 and 20-18.

Mitchell’s Sawyer Stoebner finished with 17 kills and 21 digs. Hope Flippin finished with 10 kills and three aces. Lauren VanOverschelde and Halle Haring recorded seven kills apiece. Paige Guthmiller added 21 digs. Addie Siemsen had five aces. 


Hitchcock-Tulare 3, Redfield 0

REDFIELD — Hitchcock-Tulare swept Redfield in straight sets in Tuesday high school volleyball action. The set scores were 26-24, 25-12 and 25-22.

Hitchcock-Tulare’s Katelyn Schroeder recorded seven kills, 12 digs and three aces. Ella Johnson recorded three kills, while Cambree Hoekman added two aces and 11 digs. Lila Johnson posted 17 assists and Isabel Gilbert had two blocks.

For Redfield, Hayden Gall had 11 assists. Katie Rozell finished with five kills and two aces. Ceci Suchor added four kills, while Chloe Zens had 17 digs. 


Wilmot 3, Waverly-South Shore 0

WAVERLY — Wilmot swept Waverly-South Shore in straight sets in Tuesday high school volleyball action. The set scores were 25-21, 25-15 and 25-15.

Wilmot’s Addison Heinje had 10 kills, three aces and two blocks. Stacia Redday and Julia Anderson had two kills apiece. Mya Heinje and Julia Anderson had three aces apiece.

Waverly-South Shore stats were not reported. 


Dakota Valley 3, Tri-Valley 1

NORTH SIOUX CITY — Class A No. 2 Dakota Valley defeated Tri-Valley in a four-set high school volleyball match on Tuesday. The set scores were 22-25, 25-10, 25-17 and 25-14.

Dakota Valley’s Sophie Tuttle recorded 14 kills, 11 digs, two blocks and 12 aces. Claire Munch added 13 kills, five aces and four digs. Emerson Mead had six kills and four blocks. Sammy Kimball added five kills. Jacee Squire and Bria Perryman added 20 assists apiece. Squire recorded eight digs. Lauren Olhausen added nine kills and four blocks. 

Tri-Valley’s Maddie Wenzel had eight kills, while Abby Wagner finished with 12 assists. Emery Pearson logged four kills and two blocks. Kenzie Atwood finished with 10 digs. 


Hills Beaver Creek, MN 3, Viborg-Hurley 2

VIBORG — Viborg-Hurley came up just short in an epic five-set battle with Hills Beaver Creek, Minnesota. Set Scores were 20-25, 24-26, 30-28, 25-14 and 15-9. 

Addison Hurth led Viborg-Hurley with six kills, three blocks and four aces. Aubree Schwartz and Charley Nelson both had 22 digs to lead Viborg-Hurley. 


Tea Area 3, West Central 0

HARTFORD — Tea Area swept West Central in straight sets in a Tuesday high school volleyball match. The set scores were 25-15, 25-15 and 25-20.

West Central’s Marissa Dobbs finished with five kills and two aces. Jocelyn Nilson and Landry Heath had 17 and 15 digs, respectively. Cambree Ideker had two blocks.

Tea Area stats were not reported. 


Sioux Falls O’Gorman 3, Brandon Valley 2

BRANDON — Class AA No. 4 Sioux Falls O’Gorman edged Brandon Valley in a five-set high school volleyball match on Tuesday. The set scores were 22-25, 25-13, 22-25, 25-12 and 16-14.

Brandon Valley’s Abby Gruber finished with 11 kills and two blocks. Jayaunna Stroh posted 10 kills. Sydney Benson finished with 16 digs. Kennedi Boomsma had two blocks. Riya Sheley posted 36 assists and five aces. Lexi Gawarecki added three aces.
