Kimball/White Lake Nationals 7, Northville Merchants 1

MITCHELL — Mitchell Price struck out 10 batters as Kimball/White Lake defeated Northville in first round action of the State B amateur tournament Friday.

Price went the distance on the mound for the Nationals, allowing one run on three hits and two walks, fanning 10 batters.

Trent Wookey drove in two runs on three hits, including a double, Carter Lenz tallied two RBIs on a double, Dylanger Pierson collected an RBI on two hits, including a triple, Caden Lenz drove inn a run on a triple and a walk, while Jaxon Christensen and Jonny Lyons each tallied hits in the win, including a triple by Lyons.

For Northville, Jeremiah Maxfield allowed seven runs on eight hits and six walks in 7.1 innings, striking out nine.

Devin Fischbach tallied an RBI-single, while Greg Heyne and Ty Sieber each tallied hits in the loss, including a double by Sieber.

Kimball/White Lake will now face Canova in the second round on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.


Canova Gang 11, Lesterville Broncs 0 (7 innings)

MITCHELL — Canova struck four 12 hits as it defeated Lesterville in the opening round of the State B amateur tournament Friday.

Justin Miller batted 3-for-3 with a double, homer, two walks, and five RBIs, Cole Gassman drove in two runs on two hits, TIm Gassman and Riley Genzlinger each drove in a run on two hits, Derek Miller tallied a hit and an RBI, while Jason Miller tallied two hits in the win.

Trey Krier earned the victory on the mound, allowing six hits in seven innings, tossing 56 strikes in 67 total pitches.

For Lesterville, Alex Wagner took the loss allowing seven runs on eight hits and five walks in 4.1 innings, striking out eight.

Ethan Wishon and Garret Damico each tallied two hits in the loss.

Canova will now face Kimball/White Lake in the second round on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Alexandria Angels 5, Flandreau Cardinals 3

MITCHELL — Tyson Gau’s two-RBI double lifted Alexandria to an opening round state tournament victory over Flandreau Friday.

Gau drove in two runs on a double and a walk, Cole Wenande had a three-RBI double and a walk, while Michael Schoettmer tallied three hits in the win.

Riley McSherry earned the victory on the mound, allowing three runs on six hits and six walks in a complete game performance, striking out seven batters.

For Flandreau, Zak Wallner took the loss allowing five runs on six hits and five walks in 7.1 innings, striking out two.

Chris Burke of Colman as well as Austin Koenig each tallied two hits, including a double by Koening, while Bret Severtson and Rick Weber each tallied an RBI-single in the win.

Alexandria will now face Platte in the second round of the state tournament on Monday at 7:30 p.m.


Platte Killer Tomatoes 1, Dell Rapids Mudcats 0

MITCHELL — Grant Doom struck out 15 batters as Platte upsets Dell Rapids Mudcats in the opening round of the state tournament Friday.

Doom went all nine innings, allowing just one hit and seven walks while striking out 15 batters to earn the victory on the mound.

Mason Townsend, Michael Buitenbos, and Hayden Kuiper each tallied doubles, while Sheldon Gant hit an RBI-groundout to score the go-ahead run in the eighth.

For Dell Rapids, Kris Regas allowed one run on five hits and a walk in nine innings, striking out 16 batters.

Carter Gullickson tallied a hit and two walks in the loss for Dell Rapids.

Platte will now face Alexandria in the second round of the state tournament on Monday at 7:30 p.m.


Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels 5, Yankton Tappers 2

BROOKINGS — Sioux Falls scored a run in each of the last five frames as the Flying Squirrels defeated Yankton in the first round of the State A amateur tournament Friday.

Jack Simonsen batted 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs, Lucas WIlber drove in a run on two hits, Kyle Gulbrandson and J Holzer each tallied an RBI-single, while Zach Dibble, Conner Hurley, and Carter Brown each tallied hits in the win.

Stuart Baruth earned the victory in five shutout innings on the mound, allowing five hits and four walks while fanning four batters.

For Yankton, Kade Sudbeck allowed four runs on eight hits and four walks in eight innings on the mound.

Lucas Kampshoff had three hits, Drew Ryken tallied two hits, while Shugo Kondo, Will Rauch, Colin Zahrbock, Mitch Gullickson, and Mac Ryken each tallied hits in the loss.
