Berkeley Engelland paces Mount Vernon/Plankinton to title at Wagner Invitational
Mount Vernon/Plankinton's Berkeley Engelland won three events at Tuesday's Wagner Invitational.

WAGNER — The Mount Vernon/Plankinton girls and Ethan/Parkston boys captured team titles at Tuesday’s Wagner Invitational. 

The MVP girls racked up 92 points, finishing ahead of Elk Point-Jefferson (83) and Chamberlain (72). Ethan/Parkston boys recorde 127 points, well ahead of Gregory (74) and Platte-Geddes (72).

In girls action, MVP’s Berkeley Engelland won the 100-meter dash (:12.88), 200-meter dash (:27.25) and 800-meter run (2:12.82). 

MVP’s Reagan Rus won the 100-meter hurdles (:16.28) and placed second in the 300-meter hurdles (:48.47). Elk Point-Jefferson’s Lauren McDermott won the 300-meter hurdles (:47.22) and finished second in the 100-meter hurdles (:16.40). 

MVP’s Clara Fink won the shot put (40-4) and placed second in the discus (107-10). MVP’s Makenzie Hetland won the high jump with a leap of 5-5. 

Chamberlain’s Kinsey Evans won the 1,600-meter run (5:28.73), 3,200-meter run (11:33.18) and ran the anchor leg on the winning 3,200-meter relay (10:16.77). Evans also ran the anchor leg on Chamberlain’s 1,600-meter relay, which finished second in 4:25.15.

In boys action, Ethan/Parkston’s James Deckert was a double winner in the long jump (20-9.75) and triple jump (42-2.75). 

Ethan/Parkston’s Connor Prunty won the 100-meter dash (:11.72) and finished second in the 200-meter dash (:24.11). 

The Ethan/Parkston boys won the 800-meter relay (1:33.78), 1,600-meter relay (3:34.07) and sprint medley relay (3:49.13). 

Winner’s Shawn Hammerbeck won the shot put (46-7), placed second in the discus (138-7) and seventh in the javelin (134-2). 

Gregory’s Daniel Mitchell cleared 6-5 to win the high jump.
