Berkeley Engelland powers Mount Vernon/Plankinton girls to region title with four first-place finishes

ALEXANDRIA — The Mount Vernon/Plankinton girls and Platte-Geddes boys captured team titles at Thursday’s Region 5A track and field meet. 

MVP finished with 142.5 points, finishing ahead of Ethan/Parkston (119) and Hanson (99). Platte-Geddes recorded 127.5 points, followed by Hanson (119) and Ethan/Parkston (115.5).

Mount Vernon/Plankinton’s Berkeley Engelland recorded first-place finishes in the 100-meter dash (:12.50), 200-meter dash (:26.07), 400-meter dash (:57.33) and 800-meter run (2:14.31).

MVP’s Reagan Rus captured first-place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles (:15.63) and 300-meter hurdles (:46.83). Rus added a second-place finish in the triple jump (32-5) and placed fourth in the long jump (15-7.5). 

MVP’s Clara Fink won the discus throw (121-11) and shot put (38-8.25).  

Chamberlain’s Kinsey Evans won the 1,600-meter run (5:16.49), 3,200-meter run (11:52.81) and placed second in the 800-meter run (2:26.24). 


On the boys side, Platte-Geddes’ Lee Reiser captured first-place finishes in the shot put (57-0.5) and discus (152-3). 

Platte-Geddes also earned first-place finishes in the 400-meter relay (:44.43) and 800-meter relay (1:33.16). 

Mount Vernon/Plankinton’s Reed Rus won the 110-meter hurdles (:15.23), placed second in the 300-meter hurdles (:41.91) and fourth in the high jump (6-0). 

Kimball/White Lake’s Dawson Miller won the 800-meter run (2:09.40) and placed second in the 400-meter dash (:53.30) and high jump (6-0).  

Ethan/Parkston’s James Deckert won the long jump (21-8) and triple jump (41-7.5).
