RAPID CITY — It was worth the wait for the Bison/Hettinger/Scranton girls golf team.

The Cardinals, who finished second last season, weathered thunderstorms and rain delays to win their first-ever Class B girls golf championship Tuesday at Hart Ranch Golf Course.

Bison/Hettinger/Scranton carded a 536 at the two-day tournament, which was briefly delayed Tuesday due to rainy conditions. The Cardinals held off Chester Area by three shots for the state championship.

Bison/Hettinger/Scranton’s Greta Anderson and Miller’s Jayce Pugh, last year’s state champ, shared individual medalist honors. They both finished with 163s after 36 holes.

Pugh had a three-shot lead entering the final hole, but took a nine on hole No. 18 and Anderson carded a six to force the tie.

Bison/Hettinger/Scranton’s Allison Kahler and Jones County’s Kamri Kittleson shot 168s to share third-place honors. Burke’s Adisyn Indahl (173) rounded out the top-five golfers.
