Behind five individual champions the Canton girls wrestling team topped the field at Thursday’s McCook Central/Montrose wrestling tournament.

The Canton girls amassed 157 points, ahead of Central Lyon/George-Little Rock, Iowa (108) and Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon (85). Mitchell (66) and Madison (60) rounded out the top-five  teams. 

Brook Warejcka (107), Sara Schroder (114), Jaryn Warejcka (120), Kori Wallner (185) and Kiara King (250) all claimed titles for the C-Hawks. 

Mitchell had individual titles from Taylor DeJong (165) and Danny Borja (126). 

Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon claimed titles (132) from Britney Rueb and (138) from Peyton Hellman. 

Other South Dakota individual winners came from Liza Krueger of Groton Area (100), Elena Brennan of Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes (152).

In one of the top matches of the tournament, No. 6 ranked Krueger of Groton Area, a freshman, knocked off No. 1 ranked Finley Evjen of Canton, 7-6 in the (100) weight class.
