RAPID CITY — Cheyenne-Eagle Butte’s Jayden Taken Alive captured the boys individual race at the Lakota Nation Invitational cross-country meet on Friday.  

Taken Alive covered the 5,000-meter distance at Hart Ranch in 17 minutes and :25.68 seconds, finishing ahead of McLaughlin’s Wamni Kills Crow (17:52.73) and Wyoming Indian’s Jordan Black (18:06.25). Wyoming Indian’s Heeyeiniitou Monroe-Black (18:19.11) and Crazy Horse’s Edward Black Hawk (18:25.54) rounded out the top-five runners.

On the girls side, Wyoming Indian’s Dai’Onna Posey won the individual race in 21:20.40. Little Wound’s Tahca Zephier (21:58.47) and Todd County’s Alexsis Red Bird (23:01.66) finished second and third, respectively. Rapid City Central’s Millie Patterson (23:22.46) and Todd County’s Shelly Larvie (23:45.59) rounded out the top-five runners.

Wyoming Indian won both the boys and girls team titles. The Wyoming Indian girls finished with 31 points, ahead of Rapid City Central (32) and Todd County (33). The Wyoming Indian boys finished with 30 points, ahead of Rapid City Stevens (31) and Cheyenne-Eagle Butte (38).
