SIOUX FALLS — For being just a sophomore, Clark/Willow Lake’s Bo Begeman is a busy young man.

In Thursday’s opening round loss to Rapid City Christian, the 6-foot-6 forward scored seven points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked two shots. On Friday, he scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a loss to Hill City.

While Begeman was on the court Friday, the Clark band, of which Begeman is a trumpet  player, delighted the crowd under the direction of Amy Nelson.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg for Begaman.

“Im a member of FFA (Future Farmers of American) and am part of the CDE (Career Development Events) for food science,” Begeman said. “We go to a CDE and compete and take a test on the subject and create a product that you are doing to sell to the judges and then you have to present that to them, so that’s what I do.”

Begeman is also a member of the FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America).

“Last year I was in parliamentary procedure and we went to Seattle and got second place at a national competition,” he said. “This year me and two others are doing sports nutrition which is basically we create a program that sells to an athlete that is buying for us.”

Begeman is hoping to add National Honor Society to his list of titles this spring.

In addition to basketball, Begeman participates in football and track and field and is an active participant in a local youth group.

Begeman grew up in Harrisburg but spent a few years on some acreage near Sioux Falls. He and his family currently reside on a farm outside of Clark.

With several years of high school remaining, Begeman says he is undecided on what he wants to pursue for a college degree and his future.

Clark band missing some pieces at the band of the day Friday

The Clark band sounded fantastic on Friday but they were missing some pieces with student athletes heavily involved in the sport of basketball.

In addition to Begeman, basketball player Miles Olson is a tuba player.

Leah Nelson, alto saxophone, Shawna Thornvold, flute, Jordyn Repp clarinet and Amanda Robles-Torres, flute are all members of the cheer squad for Clark.

Talyn Ortberg, trumpet, Tatum Ortberg, flute, Baylor Lamb, mellophone and Catilyn Mudgett, trumpet, are all helping keep stats for the Clark/Willow Lake boys this weekend.
