Class B Roundup - Waubay/Summit powers past Aberdeen Christian for consolation win

ABERDEEN — Waubay/Summit built a 36-18 halftime lead and held off Aberdeen Christian for a consolation semifinal win at the Class B tournament on Friday.

Waubay/Summit’s Jonathan Johnston led all scorers with 15 points. Damon Opdahl stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, six assists, five rebounds, and three steals, while Seth Gaikowski also recorded 12 points, as well as dishing out four assists. Jackson Wohlleber tallied nine points, while J. Gulbraa added four points, nine rebounds, and four assists.

The Mustangs advance to the consolation championship and will play Castlewood at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday.

Aberdeen Christian was led by Andrew Brennan with 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists, while Ethan Russell scored 11 points. Malek Wieker added five points.

The Knights will play in the seventh place game against Freeman Academy/Marion at noon on Saturday. 


Castlewood 64, Freeman Academy/Marion 48

ABERDEEN — Castlewood pulled away from Freeman Academy/Marion for a consolation semifinal win at the Class B tournament on Friday.

The Warriors were led by Tristan Nielsen with 15 points, six rebounds, and four assists, while Lane Tvedt tallied 11 points. Joe Decker recorded 10 points, while Jackson Schofield finished with eight points and five boards. Booker Schooley added seven points and nine rebounds.

Castlewood advances to the consolation championship to play Waubay/Summit at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday.

The Bearcats were led by Connor Epp with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Quincy Blue tallied 11 points. Thalen Schroeder recorded 10 points and seven rebounds, while Matthew Hagen added seven points and four steals.

Freeman Academy/Marion will play Aberdeen Christian in the seventh place game at noon on Saturday.


De Smet 67, Potter County 45

ABERDEEN — No. 1 De Smet used a 22-6 first quarter to cruise past Potter County in the semifinal round at the Class B tournament on Friday.

De Smet was led by Damon Wilkinson with 20 points, nine rebounds, and four blocked shots, while Kalen Garry recorded 18 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. Tory Holland added 17 points and 12 rebounds.

The Bulldogs advance to the Class B state championship game to face Lower Brule at 7:45 p.m. on Saturday.

Potter County was led by Cooper Logan with 21 points and nine rebounds, while Grant Luikens scored 12 points and 11 rebounds. Seth Sharp added seven points and six rebounds.

The Battlers will play in the third-place game against White River at 6 p.m. on Saturday.


Lower Brule 86, White River 83 (3OT)

ABERDEEN — Lower Brule outlasted White River in a three-overtime thriller in the Class B semifinals on Friday.

Lower Brule was led by Ellwyn Langdeau with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Brian LaRoche, Jr. scored 20 points and four steals. Gavin Thigh recorded 19 points and three steals, while Keshaume Thigh tallied 11 points. Lane Gray added eight points.

The Sioux advance to the Class B championship game against De Smet at 7:45 p.m. on Saturday.

White River was led by Joe Sayler with 23 points and seven rebounds, while Gavin Folkers scored 22 points. Dylan Marshall stuffed the stat sheet with 21 points, nine assists, seven rebounds, and three steals. Kendrell Cuevas tallied nine points and 11 rebounds, while Nicolas Marshall added eight points.

The Tigers will play in the third-place game against Potter County at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
