Elk Point/Jefferson at Sioux Valley

VOLGA — Two Class 11B powerhouses will face off on Friday.

Class 11B No. 3 Elk Point-Jefferson (6-1) will play at Class 11B No. 2 Sioux Valley (7-0) in a marquee 11-man contest.

The Cossacks are No. 2 in the Class 11B seed points with 45.429, while the Huskies are No. 3 with 43.286 points.

Sioux Valley stayed perfect last week after a 42-7 victory over Beresford. EPJ’s lone defeat was against Class 11B No. 1 Winner, 18-8. The Huskies, who have played in the last two Class 11B state championships, are on a four-game winning streak. They beat Flandreau, 21-14, last week.

Sioux Valley won last year’s meeting, 20-11.

Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central at Mount Vernon/Plankinton

MOUNT VERNON — Two Class 11B contenders will collide before their playoff runs.

Class 11B No. 4 Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central (6-1) will play at Class 11B No. 5 Mount Vernon/Plankinton (5-2) in a top-five matchup. The teams are both looking to cement their top-eight positions in the Class 11B seed points.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton is No. 4 in the Class 11B seed point standings with 43.000 points, just behind Elk Point-Jefferson. WWSSC, meanwhile, is No. 6 with 42.000 points and holds a slight cushion over McCook Central/Montrose (41.625), Aberdeen Roncalli (41.286), Groton Area (41.286) and St. Thomas More (41.286).

Brandon Valley at Harrisburg

HARRISBURG — It’s No. 1 vs. No. 2 in Class 11AAA.

Class 11AAA No. 1 Harrisburg (7-0) will host Class 11AAA No. 2 Brandon Valley (7-0) in a matchup between the last two undefeated teams in the class.

The Lynx and Tigers have separated themselves atop Class 11AAA and Friday’s winner will likely grab the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.

Brandon Valley stayed perfect last week, blanking Mitchell by a 47-0 decision. Harrisburg, meanwhile, outlasted Sioux Falls Jefferson 21-14 to remain undefeated.

Howard at Viborg-Hurley

VIBORG — Two Cornbelt Conference foes will collide before their postseason runs.

Class 9A No. 1 Howard (7-0) will play at Class 9AA No. 4 Viborg-Hurley (6-1) in a marquee nine-man contest.

Howard, which is currently the No. 2 seed in Class 9A, can solidify one of the top seeds in the class with a win. The Tigers currently have 45.429 points, sandwiched between No. 1 Wall (46.286) and No. 3 Warner (44.571).

The Cougars won their fifth consecutive game last week, holding off Hanson for a 27-14 victory. The Cougars are currently No. 5 in Class 9AA seed points standings (43.714). Viborg-Hurley could vault up the standings with a victory over the Tigers.

Yankton at Tea Area

TEA — Yankton will take its turn atop the Class 11AA rankings.

The Bucks, which defeated previously No. 1 Brookings last week, has ascended atop the Class 11AA poll this week and will face a top-five team on Friday. Yankton (5-2) will play at Class 11AA No. 5 Tea Area (4-3) in a top-five matchup.

The class has been filled with unpredictability each week and multiple teams have been No. 1 throughout the season.

The Bucks, who have won three straight games, climbed atop the poll this week. They will face a Tea Area team that’s reeling as of late. The Titans have dropped two straight against Brookings (29-22) and Watertown (25-0), but could add to Class 11AA’s whacky season with a win over the Bucks.

Yankton won both meetings against Tea Area last season, including a 33-25 victory in the playoffs.

Sioux Falls Christian at Dell Rapids

DELL RAPIDS — Sioux Falls Christian has taken on all Class 11A challengers, and will next face the two-time defending state champs.

Class 11A No. 1 Sioux Falls Christian (7-0) will play at Class 11A No. 3 Dell Rapids (6-1) in a Dak-XII Conference contest.

The Chargers are the last undefeated team left in Class 11A, and have won six games against teams in the class. Last week, Sioux Falls Christian defeated Class 11B Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan to improve to 7-0.

The Quarriers, meanwhile, have won six straight games after dropping a 22-14 decision against Dakota Valley in the opener.

The Chargers would further cement themselves as the top Class 11A team with a victory over the Quarriers, who have won four straight in the all-time series.

Hamlin at Elkton-Lake Benton

ELKTON — There are three undefeated teams left in Class 9AA, and two of them will play on Friday.

Class 9AA No. 2 Hamlin (7-0) will play at Class 9AA No. 3 Elkton-Lake Benton (7-0) in a marquee nine-man matchup. The Chargers, Elks and Parkston are the last undefeated teams in Class 9AA.

Hamlin and ELB have rolled to undefeated records with identical résumés. The Chargers average 56 points per game, while allowing just 3.1 points per contest. Hamlin has pitched four shutouts and has given up just 22 points this season.

The Elks, meanwhile, are scoring 47.7 points per game and are allowing 8.3 points per game. ELB has pitched three shutouts during the year.

The teams last met in 2021, a 16-14 Hamlin victory.

Wolsey-Wessington at Kimball/White Lake

KIMBALL — Two Missouri Valley Football Conference teams jockeying for playoff positioning will clash in Kimball.

Class 9A Wolsey-Wessington (6-1) will play at Class 9AA Kimball/White Lake (6-1) in both team’s regular-season finale.

The WiLdKats are No. 8 in the Class 9AA seed points standings, and could secure a first-round home playoff game with a win. The Warbirds, meanwhile, are No. 5 in the Class 9A seed points standings.

KWL is coming off a 34-14 win over Gregory and is on a four-game winning streak. KWL’s lone setback was a 26-0 setback against Class 9AA No. 1 Parkston (26-0).

Wolsey-Wessington dropped a 30-22 decision against Parkston on Oct. 11. It was Wolsey-Wessington’s first defeat of the season.

Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy at Avon

AVON — The Great Plains Conference championship is on the line in Avon.

Class 9B No. 1 Avon (7-0) will host Class 9AA Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy (5-2) in a battle of the top two Great Plains Conference teams.

Avon, which won last season’s Class 9B state championship, remained undefeated last week after knocking off Scotland-Menno (58-20). The Pirates have a stranglehold on the top spot in the Class 9B seed points standings, holding a two-point lead over Faulkton Area.

The Phoenix, meanwhile, are still maneuvering in the Class 9AA standings. FFMA is No. 6 in the standings with 43.286 points, sandwiched in between Viborg-Hurley (43.714) and Kimball/White Lake (42.429). The Phoenix picked up a 52-0 win over Irene-Wakonda last week.
