Gregory boys, Andes Centra/Dakota Christian girls win team titles at Gregory Invitational track meet

GREGORY — The Gregory boys and Andes Central/Dakota Christian girls won team track titles at Thursday’s Gregory Invitational.

The Gregory boys racked up 157.5 points, well ahead of Wagner (86.5) and Andes Central/Dakota Christian (77). Ainsworth, Nebraska (72) and Jones County (59) rounded out the top five teams. 

The Andes Central/Dakota Christian girls pulled away late to score 97 points, ahead of Wagner (86.5) and Jones County (86). Gregory (78.5) and Ainsworth, Nebraska (73) rounded out the top five teams. 

The Gorillas had a pair of double winners as Max Cook won the 200-meter dash (:23.91) and 400-meter dash (:52.46). Luke Barreto won the 1,600-meter run (4:55.92) and 3,200-meter run  (10:59.25). 

Luke Stukel won the 100-meter dash (:11.77), Colt Keiser won the high jump (6-00) and Jhett Eklund won the triple jump with a school record leap of 42-10. Gregory won the 400-meter relay (:45.70) and the sprint medley relay.

Other South Dakota winners for the boys included Jones County’s Adrik Schoon in the 800-meter run (2:09.90), Wagner’s Jackson Rolston in the 110-meter hurdles (:17.40), Jones County’s Jace Nix in the 300-meter hurdles (:46.32), Wagner’s Parker Petry in the shot put (44-04) and Wagner’s Javian Pesicka in the javelin (141-02).

Jones County won the 800-meter relay (1:38.79) and 1,600-meter relay (3:49.11).

The Andes Central/Dakota Christian girls picked up wins from Leah Brown in the 100-meter dash (:13.98), Aspen Niewenhuis in the 1,600-meter run (6:26.26). The AC/DC quartet of Josie Brouwer, Leah Brown, Lilly Niewenhuis and Cambria Ronfeldt combined to win the 800-meter relay (1:53.98) and Ronfeldt won the triple jump (29-04). 

Jones County freshman BreAna Aske won the 200-meter dash (:27.97), 400-meter dash (1:02.78) and set a personal best to win the long jump (16-09.50). The Coyotes also picked up wins from Addison Rankin in the 800-meter run (2:46.83) and Aubrie Norman won the 100-meter hurdles (:18.53) and 300-meter hurdles (:53.62). 

Wagner’s Ashlyn Koupal won the shot put (35-02) and high jump (5-02). 

Other winners on the girls side were St. Francis Indian’s Malyssa Four Horns in the 3,200-meter run (16:25.89), Gregory’s Dani VanDerWerff (104-01).

Gregory won the 400-meter relay (:55.59) and 1,600-meter relay (5:03.07).
