July 13 Legion Baseball Roundup - Gregory County uses 15-run inning to power past Winner/Colome

Gregory County 17, Winner/Colome 3 (5 innings)

GREGORY — A 15 run fourth inning powered Gregory County past Winner/Colome in a Legion baseball game on Wednesday.

Bryce Frank took the win for Gregory County, allowing five hits and three runs in five innings, while striking out two.

Frank and Carson Klundt had two hits apiece to lead Gregory County. Ben Witt had three RBI, while Klundt, Frank, Gannon Thomas, and Trey Murray had two RBI apiece.

Joey Cole took the loss for Winner/Colome, allowing ten hits and 15 runs in 3 ⅔ innings, while striking out three.

Cole led Winner/Colome with two hits in three at bats. Pierce Nelson had one hit and two RBI, while Aiden Barfuss had one RBI.


Elk Point-Jefferson 10, Menno/Scotland Trappers Post 152 0

ELK POINT — Ben Swatek’s no-hitter led Elk Point-Jefferson to a Legion baseball win over Menno/Scotland Trappers Post 152 on Wednesday.

Swatek pitched five innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, while striking out seven batters.

Ty Trometer led Elk Point-Jefferson with two hits and one RBI. Jordan Anderson and Keaton Gale each had two RBI.

Brayden Sattler took the loss for Menno/Scotland, giving up five hits, four runs, and one walk in two innings. Jacob Schott started the game for Menno/Scotland, allowing six runs and one hit in one inning.


Aberdeen Smittys 7, Mandan (N.D.) 3

MANDAN, N.D. — The Aberdeen Smittys picked up a Legion baseball win over Mandan (N.D.) on Wednesday.

Josh Steinwandt took the win for the Aberdeen Smittys, allowing one run on one hit, while striking out one in four innings.

The Aberdeen Smittys tallied 11 hits, with Ethan Kjenstad collecting three hits in four at bats. Steinwandt added two hits and Andrew Woehl drove in two runs. Drew Salfrank, Casey Vining, Nick Clemens, Carter Dingman, Brendan Livermont and Andrew Woehl each had hits. 

Mandan (N.D.) won game 2, 9-7.


Watertown Post 17 7, Huron Post 7 2

WATERTOWN — Watertown Post 17 scored four runs in the first inning to pull away from Huron Post 7 for a Legion baseball win on Wednesday.

Andrew Czech earned the win for Watertown Post 17, allowing three hits and one run in 5 ⅔ innings, while striking out nine.

Braedon Zaug led Watertown Post 17 with three hits in four at bats, while Ryan Roby, Will Engstrom, Kolby Lacher, and Ben Althoff each added two hits. Lacher and Engstrom each drove in two runs.

Mason Davis took the loss for Huron Post 7, allowing 12 hits and seven runs, while striking out four in five innings.

Kolby Hofer, Trace Wenz, Layne Wenzel, and Peyton Grace each had one hit to lead Huron Post 7. Wenz drove in one run.

Watertown Post 17 also won game 2, 4-0.


Harrisburg Tigers 15, Brandon Valley Post 131 7

HARRISBURG — The Harrisburg Tigers pulled away from Brandon Valley Post 131 for a Legion baseball win on Wednesday.

Maddox Plack was on the mound for Harrisburg, pitching three innings and allowing six runs on six hits, while striking out three.

Noah Boschee led Harrisburg with three hits in five at bats, while Maddux Scherer, Lincoln Carlson, and Carter Barenfuss each had two hits. Barenfuss and Palmer Boyd each had three RBI, while Taylor Klein added two RBI.

Trey Sejnoha took the loss for Brandon Valley Post 131, allowing seven hits and nine runs, while striking out eight and walking one in 3 ⅓ innings.

Daniel Butyen, Cole Frisbie, and Logan Kelling led Brandon Valley Post 131 with two hits apiece. Kelling, Frisbie, and Nate Meyers each had two RBI.


Post 15 East 8, Yankton Post 12 2

SIOUX FALLS — Post 15 East scored seven runs in the fourth inning and picked up a Legion baseball win over Yankton Post 12 on Wednesday.

Lincoln Vasgaard led Post 15 East on the hill, giving up two runs on seven hits in six innings, while striking out six and walking one.

Jack Smith and Ethan Bruns led Harrisburg with two hits each, while Myles Rees had three RBI.

Samuel Kampshoff took the loss for Yankton Post 12, allowing six runs on five hits and striking out six in 3 ⅓ innings.

Jace McCorkell and Joe Gokie led Yankton Post 12 with two hits apiece, while McCorkell and Drew Ryken each had one RBI.

Post 15 East also won game 2, 9-5.


Pierre Post 8 4, Sturgis Post 33 Titans 0

PIERRE — Lincoln Kienholz’s big day on the mound led Pierre Post 8 to a shutout victory over the Sturgis Post 33 Titans in a Legion baseball game on Wednesday.

Kienholz allowed three hits and zero runs, while fanning 13 batters and walking one in seven innings. Kienholz also led Pierre Post 8 with three hits in four at bats.

Conner Cruickshank led Sturgis Post 33 on the hill, allowing nine hits and four runs in six innings, while striking out three.

Dustin Alan led Sturgis Post 33 with two hits in three at bats, while Ridge Inhofer added one hit.


Post 74 Bandits 8, Renner Royals Post 307 3

RENNER — The Post 74 Bandits held off Renner Royals Post 307 for a Legion baseball win on Wednesday.

Jake Ammann picked up the win for the Post 74 Bandits, pitching six innings and allowing three runs on six hits, while striking out six.

Justin Cofell led the Post 74 Bandits with three RBI and Nathan Lease added two RBI. 

Wyatt Hermsen took the loss for the Renner Royals, allowing eight runs on eight hits and striking out seven innings.

Kyle Konechne led the Renner Royals with two hits in three at bats and one RBI.


Groton Post 39 12, Mobridge Post 4 9

MOBRIDGE — Groton Post 39 held off Mobridge Post 4 for a Legion baseball win on Wednesday.

Bradin Althoff led Groton Post 39 on the hill, pitching five innings and allowing six hits and three runs, while striking out seven.

Korbin Kucker led Groton Post 39 with three hits in four at bats and two RBI, while Braxton Emery added two hits and two RBI.

Simon Fried took the loss for Mobridge Post 4, allowing zero hits and zero runs, while walking one in one inning.

Holden Eisemann led Mobridge Post 4 with three hits in four at bats, while Jackson Eisemann and Rocky Good Shield each had two hits. Taylon Carmody had three RBI and Good Shield had two RBI.


Belle Fourche Post 32 13, Spearfish Post 164 9

SPEARFISH — Belle Fourche Post 32 held off Spearfish Post 164 for a Legion baseball win on Wednesday.

Nolan Wahlfeldt led Belle Fourche Post 32 on the mound, allowing seven runs on seven hits in 5 ⅔ innings, while striking out seven.

Wahlfeldt and Gabe Heck led Belle Fourche Post 32 with three hits, while Evan Vissia, Dalton Davis, and Sean Wahlfeldt each added two hits. Nolan Wahlfeldt drove in three runs, while Heck and J.T. Hahne drove in two runs apiece.

Brady Hartwig took the loss for Spearfish Post 164, giving up ten hits and eight runs in six innings, while striking out four.

Braden Ericks led Spearfish Post 164 with three hits in five at bats, while Carter Lyon, Cody Chapman, and Jonathan Bloom each had two hits. Lyon drove in two runs.


Dakota Valley Post 319 7, South Sioux City (Neb.) 5

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. — Dakota Valley Post 319 scored six runs in the third inning and held off South Sioux City (Neb.) in a Legion baseball game on Wednesday.

Ashton Pick led Dakota Valley Post 319 to the win, giving up zero hits and one run in three innings, while striking out five.

Isaac Klemme, Beau Jones, Jaxon Hennies, and Beau Pollema each had one hit to lead Dakota Valley Post 319. Klemme, Hennies, Brayden Major, and Randy Rosenquist each drove in one run.


Post 170 Salem 12, Post 70 Flandreau 2

FLANDREAU — Post 170 Salem raced past Post 70 Flandreau for a Legion baseball win on Wednesday.

Raygen Randall led Post 170 Salem to the win, giving up three hits and two runs, while striking out six in six innings.

Bobby Koepsell led Post 170 Salem with four hits and four RBI, while Randall, Trey Clausen, and Trevor Hansen each had two hits. Hanse had three RBI, while Clausen and Gavin Gordan each had two RBI.

Ethan Hoffman took the loss for Post 70 Flandreau, allowing five runs on four hits and striking out one in two innings.

Tash Lunday, Logan Voelker, and Kolby Peters each had one hit to lead Post 70 Flandreau. Peters had one home run, while Lunday drove in one run.


Canova Gang 17, Colton Post 206 2 (4 innings)

CANOVA — The Canova Gang used a nine run fourth innings to race past Colton Post 206 in a Legion baseball game on Wednesday.

Lane Miller led the Canova Gang on the hill, giving up two runs on three hits in four innings, while striking out one.

Kade Shumaker led the Canova Gang with three hits in four at bats and four RBI. Jack Neises tallied three RBI, while Miller, Griffin Clubb, Jackson Remmers, and Weston Remmers had two RBI apiece.

Conner Christensen took the loss for Colton Post 206, allowing seven runs on two hits in 1 ⅓ innings. Christensen also had one hit and two RBI.


Tabor Post 183 3, Parkston Post 194 1

PARKSTON — Tabor Post 183 picked up a Legion baseball win over Parkston Post 194 on Wednesday.

Nolan Carda led Tabor Post 183 to the victory, allowing one run on one hit in five innings, while striking out eight.

Riley Rothschadl led Tabor Post 183 with two hits in three at bats. Carda, Trent Herrboldt, and Dawson Bietz each had one RBI.

Adam Doering took the loss for Parkston Post 194, allowing two hits and two runs in three innings. Max Scott started the game for Parkston Post 194, giving up one run on two hits in four innings, while striking out five.

Luke Bormann had one hit in two at bats to lead Parkston Post 194, while Scott had one RBI.
