Winner/Colome 9, Parkston Devil Rays 2

PARKSTON — Winner/Colome used two innings to break away from the Parkston Devil Rays for a District 5B amateur baseball win on Thursday. 

Tied 1-1 entering the fourth inning, Winner/Colome piled up five runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth to pull away from Parkston. 

Derek Graesser and Dillon Lambley finished with two hits and an RBI apiece. Drew DeMers and Reed Harter both drove in runs. Connor Hopkins earned the win after allowing five hits, one earned run, three walks and struck out three batters in his five-inning start.

For the Devil Rays, Austin Kerr finished 2 of 3 and Jay Storm drove in a run. Jonah Schmidt took the loss after surrendering two hits, two earned runs, five walks and struck out one batter in one relief inning. 


Platte 16, Dimock-Emery 10

PARKSTON — Platte outlasted Dimock-Emery in a District 5B amateur baseball slugfest on Thursday. The teams combined for 26 runs and 28 hits.

Richard Sternberg paced Platte with four hits and five RBI, including a three-run homer. Mason Townsend, Hayden Kuiper, Preston Nedved and Michael Buitenbos had two hits apiece. Nedved and Ryan Allen drove in two runs apiece. Travis Gant picked up the win after scattering 11 hits, striking out two batters and allowing eight earned runs in his six-inning start. Sternberg struck out four batters and allowed two hits in three relief innings. 

For Dimock-Emery, Jason Schmidt had three hits and drove in seven runs, including a two-run homer. Chase Arend finished 3 of 5 and drove in a run. Parker Bollinger and Josh Engquist had two hits, while Engquist drove in a run. Phil Johnson took the loss after allowing seven hits, 10 runs (six earned), two walks and struck out three batters in his two-inning start.
