July 30 Amateur Baseball Roundup - Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks claim District 4B championship over Canova

Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks 11, Canova Gang 7

DELL RAPIDS — The Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks used a five-run eighth inning to top the Canova Gang in the District 4B amateur baseball championship game Saturday. Both teams will play in the Class B state amateur baseball tournament on Aug. 3-14 at Cadwell Park. 

Noah Vettrus picked up the win for Humboldt/Hartford, allowing zero runs on two hits, while striking out two in 1 ⅔ innings. Micah Warrington started the game for Humboldt/Hartford, lasting three innings and allowing five hits and three runs, while walking one.

Humboldt/Hartford tallied 15 hits, with Joe Hanish recording five hits in five at bats. Brock Haldeman had four hits and Devon Garry added two hits. Hanish and Haldeman each drove in two runs.

Justin Miller took the loss for Canova, surrendering five runs on three hits and striking out one in one inning. Jason Miller started the game for Canova, giving up three runs on four hits and striking out three in two innings.

Canova recorded 13 hits, with Garrett Gassman tallying four hits in five at bats. Riley Genzlinger and Justin Miller added three and two hits, respectively. Jared Miller drove in two runs, while Genzlinger, Gassman, and Justin Miller each drove in one run.  


Wynot Expos 4, Freeman Black Sox 2

FREEMAN — Wynot, Nebraska, captured the District 6B amateur baseball tournament title on Saturday. Both teams will play in the Class B state amateur baseball tournament on Aug. 3-14 at Cadwell Park.

Peyton Wieseler took the win for Wynot, allowing five hits and two runs in nine innings, while striking out eight.

Jaelen Wieseler and Jackson Sudbeck led Wynot with two hits apiece. Wieseler also had two RBI.

Trey Christensen took the loss for Freeman, giving up five hits and four runs, while striking out one in 2 ⅔ innings.

Bailey Sage led Freeman with two hits in four at bats. Owen Feser had one home run in the ninth inning.


Salem Cubs 7, Dell Rapids PBR 3

DELL RAPIDS — Salem topped Dell Rapids PBR in District 4B action to advance to the Class B state amateur baseball tournament on Saturday. 

Isaac Anderson took the win for Salem, allowing seven hits and three runs in nine innings, while striking out seven.

Tyler Cleveland led Salem with three hits in four at bats, while Brian Duxbury had four RBI.

Trey Randel took the loss for Dell Rapids, allowing seven runs on eight hits and striking out five in 5 ⅓ innings.

Conner Spindler led Dell Rapids with two hits in three at bats, while Teagan Schlimgen led with two RBI and one home run in the eighth inning.


Yankton Tappers 18, Tea Steam 5

SIOUX FALLS — The Yankton Tappers built a 12-0 lead after three innings and cruised to an amateur baseball win over the Tea Steam on Saturday. Yankton advanced to the Class A state amateur tournament with the win. 

Austin Wise picked up the win for Yankton, surrendering five hits and two runs, while striking out one in his five inning start.

Yankton racked up 16 hits, with William Rauch and Joe Gokie leading with four hits each, while  Tommy Alitz and Rand Thygeson added two hits apiece. Thygeson led with five RBI, while Rauch and Drew Ryken added four and three RBI, respectively. 

Brady Bretzman led Tea on the hill, giving up nine runs on ten hits and striking out one in two innings.

Bretzman, Ryan Bak, and Cameron Jensen led Tea with two hits. Bretzman, Jensen, Dawson Portner, Trevor Welch, and Troy Ljunggren each had one RBI.
