June 29 Legion Baseball Roundup - Salem/Montrose/Canova defeats Tabor in comeback fashion Saturday

Salem/Montrose/Canova 9, Tabor 7

SALEM — Salem/Montrose/Canova pounded five runs over the final two innings to defeat Tabor in Legion baseball Saturday.

Jackson Remmers led the offense batting 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Weston Remmers and Jackson Grady each knocked solo homers, while Carter Randall, Luke Koepsell, and Will Cleveland each drove in one run on one hit. Korbin Schumaker and Aiden Scheetz each tallied hits in the win, while Lane Deutsch drove in a run on a walk as well.

Scheetz earned the victory on the mound for S/M/C, allowing one hit-by-pitch in two innings, striking out four batters.

For Tabor, Landon Schmidt took the loss in one inning of relief, allowing four hits and three runs, while striking out two.

Jace Toupal and Schmidt each drove in two runs on two hits, while Easton Mudder batted 2-for-3 with a walk and solo home run. Cayden Himes batted 1-for-3 with an RBI as well.


Faulkton/Highmore 3, Vermillion 2 (8 innings)

VERMILLION — Layne Cotton’s RBI-double helped Faulkton/Highmore defeat Vermillion in Legion baseball action Saturday afternoon.

Cotton batted 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and two RBIs, while throwing 7.2 innings, allowing four hits, two walks, and two runs, striking out seven batters.

Landon Coyle collected two hits in the win, while Blaze Herdman tallied a hit as well.

For Vermillion, Tate Hage took the loss in six innings, allowing four hits, two walks, and two runs, striking out three.

Jack Moskowitz drove in two runs on one hit, Hayden Christopherson collected two hits, while Trey Hansen and Conner Roerig each tallied hits in the loss.


Lennox 3, Faulkton/Highmore 2 (8 innings)

VERMILLION — Lennox pulled ahead in extras to defeat Faulkton/Highmore in Legion baseball action Saturday evening.

Sam Bambas earned the victory on the mound for Lennox, allowing three hits, three walks, and two runs in 5.2 innings, striking out eight batters.

Conner Eich drove in one run on one hit and two walks, while Cole Spieler collected two hits. Ethan Larson, Jackson Anniker, Emery Lefers, and Tristan Butler each tallied hits in the win.

For Faulkton/Highmore, Blaze Herdman took the loss in a six-inning effort, allowing four hits, six walks, and two runs, striking out four.

Jett Kliensasser drove in one run on two hits, while Cade Schick and Layne Cotton each tallied hits in the loss.


Wagner 7, Platte/Geddes 5

PLATTE — Despite getting out-hit, 13-6, Wagner defeated Platte-Geddes in Legion baseball action Saturday evening.

Christian Doom drove in two runs on a hit, Ted Slaba collected two hits and an RBI, Carter Cournoyer batted 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Joey Cournoyer drove in a run as well.

Hunter Loeffler and Matt Link each tallied hits in the win.

Slaba earned the victory on the mound for Wagner, allowing 11 hits and five runs in five innings, striking out six batters.

For P/G, Caden Oberbroekling took the loss in 4.2 innings pitched, allowing six hits, two walks, and seven runs, striking out eight batters.

Parker Bailey drove in three runs on two hits, including a double and a home run, Joey Foxley collected three hits, including a solo home run, Oberbroekling batted 1-for-2 with a walk, a double, and an RBI, while Tanner Dyk, Ashton Krumvieda, and Kasen Konstanz each tallied two hits in the loss.


Yankton 16, Rapid City Stars 7

YANKTON — Yankton collected 13 hits as they defeated the Rapid City Stars in Legion baseball action Saturday.

Lucas Kampshoff led the offense batting 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI, Gavin Johnson drove in three runs on two hits and a walk, Austin Gobel and Tate Beste each tallied two hits and an RBI, while Matthew Sheldon and Easton Feser each drove in two runs on one hit and one walk as well.

Mark Kathol earned the victory on the mound for Yankton, allowing six hits, three walks, and seven runs in 5.2 innings, striking out three batters.

For Rapid City, Nolan Williamson took the loss in 2.1 innings pitched, issuing six hits, five walks, and seven runs while striking out three.

Ian Feeger drove in two runs on a 2-for-4 day at the plate, Tegan Sayles batted 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Anderson Lockhart drove in one run on one hit and a walk, while Colton Mehlhaff and Jonah Blake each tallied hits in the loss.


Brookings 6, Saint Cloud (Min.) 1

FARGO — Tyson Antonen’s complete game helped Brookings defeat Saint Cloud in Legion baseball action Saturday.

Antonen allowed five hits, two walks, and one unearned run across seven frames while striking out five to earn the victory on the mound.

Sam Johnson and David Brink each drove in one run on one hit, Tate Helmboldt and Nolan Miles drove in two runs on a combined five walks, and Breck Hirrschoff drove in a run as well.

For Saint Cloud, John Brew took the loss in a 5.1 inning effort, allowing four hits, four walks, and six runs.

Cade Simones tallied two hits in the game for Saint Cloud, while Jacob Oliver, Caden Johnson, and Mason Layne each tallied one hit in the loss.


Brookings 2, Willmar (Min.) 1

FARGO — Jack Merrit’s walk-off single helped Brookings defeat Willmar in Legion baseball action Saturday afternoon.

Owen Schneider earned the victory on the mound for Brookings, allowing three hits, two walks, and one run in seven innings, striking out six batters.

Merrit batted 1-for-3 with two RBIs, while Zach Struck, Breck Hirrschoff, and David Brink each tallied hits in the win.

For Willmar, Connor Smith took the loss in 6.1 innings, allowing four hits, one walk, and two runs, striking out four.

Dylan Staska, Blake Reiman, and Gavin Banks each tallied hits in the loss for Willmar.


Aberdeen Smittys 14, Huron 9

ABERDEEN — Casey Vining and Cooper Eisenbeisz drove in a combined six runs as Aberdeen earned a Legion baseball victory Saturday afternoon.

Vining batted 1-for-3 with two walks and a homer, driving in three runs, while Eisenbeisz batted 4-for-5 with three runs driven in. Zane Backous drove in two runs on one hit and a walk, Talan Dutenhoeffer collected three hits, including a double, and two RBIs, while Joran Foss drove in a run on two hits, including a double, and a walk as well.

Drew Salfrank collected three hits, including two doubles, while Jared Klootwyk and Phillip Zens each tallied hits in the win.

Donnie Soderlund earned the victory on the mound, allowing seven hits and six runs in four innings pitched.

For Huron, Tommie Martin took the loss in one inning pitched, allowing two hits, a walk, and three runs.

Trace Wenz drove in two runs on three hits, including a home run, Tanner Gilbert batted 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Kolton Ogle drove in two runs on one hit, while Jack Pedersen and Cooper Bischoff each collected two hits and an RBI. Logan Leyendecker collected three hits and a walk in the loss as well.


Aberdeen Smittys 4, Huron 3

ABERDEEN — Huron’s late comeback fell short as Aberdeen collected another Legion baseball victory Saturday evening.

Casey Vining led the Aberdeen offense with two RBIs on one hit and one walk, Phillip Zens drove in one run on one hit, while Grant Beyer collected two hits and an RBI.

Drew Salfrank earned the victory on the mound, allowing seven hits, three walks, and three runs in a complete-game outing, striking out six batters.

For Huron, Layne Wenzel took the loss in 5.1 innings pitched, allowing seven hits, four walks, and four runs, striking out five.

Jack Pederson and Brady Feenstra collected two hits apiece, while Trace Wenz, Bubba Peterson, and Wenzel each tallied one. Cooper Bischoff recorded the only RBI of the game for Huron.
