Dakota Valley 4, Madison/Chester 2 (9 innings)

BROOKINGS — Sterling Schauff’s two-RBI single powered Dakota Valley to a quarterfinal victory over Madison/Chester in extra innings to close out Monday’s action.

Schauff drove in three runs on two hits in the win, Drew Lukken added three hits, a walk and an RBI, while Jake Carter tallied two hits in the win. Noah Graham took the win on the mound allowing one hit and two walks in 2.2 innings pitched, striking out five batters. Grady Ramos got the start allowing two runs on six hits and two walks in 6.1 innings, striking out 10 batters.

For Madison/Chester, Quincy Kurtz took the loss allowing two runs on three hits and three walks in four innings pitched, striking out two. JD Prorok tossed the first five innings for the Bulldogs, allowing two runs on five hits and four walks, striking out seven.

Jordan Pedersen drove in two runs on two hits, Tregg McGillivray added two hits, a walk and a double, while Cohen Hahn tallied a double in the loss.

Dakota Valley will play Winner/Colome in the state semifinals Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.


Dell Rapids 8, Sioux Valley 2

BROOKINGS — Drake Eastman drove in three runs as top-seeded Dell Rapids pushed past Sioux Valley in the quarterfinals of the Class B state tournament..

Eastman batted 3-for-3 including a walk and two doubles,driving in three runs for the Quarriers. Tad Tjaden added two RBIs on one hit, Cole Ruesink collected two hits, including a double, while Carson Maeschen and R Brandenburg each drove in runs on one hit. Ryan Stubbe earned the victory on the mound allowing two runs on four hits and four walks in 5.2 innings, striking out two.

For Sioux Valley, Andrew Gunderson allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk in three innings. Tate Steffensen drove in a run on one hit while five other Cossacks tallied hits in the loss.

Dell Rapids will play Elk Point-Jefferson Tuesday at 12 p.m. in the state semifinals.


Elk Point-Jefferson 7, Sioux Falls Christian/Sioux Falls Lutheran 3

BROOKINGS — A five-run fifth inning lifted Elk-Point Jefferson past Sioux Falls Christian/Sioux Falls Lutheran to the state semifinals Monday.

Grayson Girard led the Huskies with three hits and two RBIs, Luke Swatek drove in two runs on one hit and one walk, Brody VanRoekel added two hits while Keaton Gale and Ashton Fairbanks each drove in one run on one hit in the win. Gale pitched a complete game for the Huskies, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk, striking out seven.

For SFC/SFL, Drew Weir took the loss, surrendering two runs on three hits in one inning pitched. Brayden Witte tallied two hits while Gabe Long and Peter Samp each drove in one run on a hit in the loss.

EPJ will play Dell Rapids Tuesday in the state semifinals at 12 p.m.


Winner/Colome 3, Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian/White Lake 2 (9 innings)

BROOKINGS — Landon Calhoon’s walk-off home run lifted Winner/Colome past Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian/White Lake in the state quarterfinals Monday.

Calhoon batted 2-for-4 with a double, homer and two RBIs in the win. Quincy Phillips tallied two hits while Carter McKenzie added one hit and one walk in the win. Calhoon took the win on the mound allowing just one walk in three innings of relief. Aiden Schroeder tossed the first six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks in six innings, striking out five.

For PGDCWL, Hayden Sprik allowed one run on one hit in two innings. Keaton Christensen started for the Honkers allowing two runs on five hits and six walks in 6.2 innings, striking out eight batters.

Jye Bailey and Kenyon Kuiper each tallied two hits while Hayden Sprik drove in a run on one hit and one walk in the loss.

WC will face Dakota Valley at 2:30 p.m. in the state semifinals.
