Winner/Colome Pheasants 14, Parkston Mudcats 3 (7 innings)

PARKSTON — JJ Farner gives up one hit as the Pheasants dominated Sunshine League action over the Mudcats Thursday night.

Farner threw all seven innings for W/C, giving up one hit, four walks, and three runs while striking out 11 batters.

Reed Harter led the team on offense, batting 3-for-4 with a walk, double, triple, and four RBIs. Drew DeMers went 2-for-4 with a walk and three RBIs, Austin Richey collected two hits, Aiden Barfuss went 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI, and Derek Graesser had just one hit and one walk, but the one hit led to an RBI triple.

For Parkston, Dylan Mogck took the loss on the mound, allowing 12 hits, six walks, and 13 runs in five innings while striking out two.

Mogck also tallied the lone hit for the Mudcats in the loss.


Salem Cubs 17, Madison Dairy Queen Broncos 2 (6 innings)

MADISON — A 12-run sixth inning helped the Cubs dominate in Cornbelt League amateur baseball action Thursday night.

The Cubs used the bats early and often, racking up 13 total in the win.

Leading the charge was Hakeem Yatim, who went 3-for-4 with a home run and a triple that drove in three runs.

Kyle Tuschen, Jon Forster, and Tyler Cleveland each collected two hits, combining for six RBIs in the win.

Bobby Koepsell, Kyle Braun, and Cole Cheeseman tallied one hit and two RBIs apiece as well. 

The winning pitcher for the Cubs, Isaac Anderson, threw two innings, giving up two hits, one walk, and one unearned run.

For Madison, Brock Minnaert was the losing pitcher giving up 12 hits, six walks, and 16 runs in 5.1 innings pitched.

Dawson Bakker collected two hits including a double and an RBI in the loss.


Lesterville Broncs 7, Wynot Expos (Neb.) 1

WYNOT — A five-run seventh inning helped propel the Broncs to a South Central League win Thursday night.

Lesterville collected 13 hits in the win, with Tyler Edler leading the charge going 3-for-5 at the plate with a double.

Ethan Wishon went 2-for-5 with a walk and a two-run home run, Micheal Drotzmann went 2-for-5 with an RBI, and Trent Herrboldt and Derek Quame each collected two hits in the victory.

Andy Dollerschell added one hit, a three-RBI double to take the lead in the seventh.

Quame and Hunter Martin combined for the victory on the mound, with Martin seeing the bulk of the work at seven innings pitched.

For Wynot, Jackson Sudbeck and Dain Whitmire combined for the loss on the mound, giving up 13 hits, four walks, and seven runs across all nine innings while striking out seven.

Lee Heimes, Peyton Wieseler, Nate Wieseler, and Sudbeck each collected hits in the loss.


Tabor Bluebirds 11, Menno MadFrogs 2

MENNO — Riley Rothschadl and Chase Kortan lit up the hits column as Tabor took down Menno in South Central League action Thursday.

Rothschadl batted 4-for-5 with a double and 2-RBIs, while Kortan added another three hits on five at-bats including an RBI-double.

Christian Uecker collected two hits and one RBI, while Joey Slama, Hunter Hallock, Beau Rothschadl, and Sam Caba each tallied hits in the win.

Kortan earned the victory on the mound, throwing six shutout innings while allowing just three hits and a walk, striking out four batters.

For Menno, Doug Hall took the loss, suffering eight hits, two walks, and six runs in five innings pitched.

Dylan Lehr collected two hits, while Macon Oplinger and Spencer Schultz each added hits in the loss.


Flandreau Cardinals 10, Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks 3

HUMBOLDT — Flandreau’s JaColby Anderson homers and strikes out 11 batters to help Flandreau to a Cornbelt League victory Thursday night.

Anderson threw six innings on the mound, giving up just seven hits and three runs to go along with his 11 strikeouts to earn the victory. At the plate Andersonwent 1-for-2 with three walks and a two-run home run, driving in three runs total in the game.

Keith Cutler and Calvin Hegg each drove in two runs on one hit, while Jacob Patterson and Josh Edlund had multi-hit games, tallying two hits apiece in the win.

For H/H, Logan Larson threw two innings, giving up three hits, one walk, and five runs while striking out six.

Brayden Odegaar and CJ DenBoer each collected two hits in the loss, while four other batters tallied hits for the Wood Ducks in the loss.


Brookings Cubs 8, Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels 6

SIOUX FALLS — The Cubs come storming back from a 4-run deficit to steal an 8-6 victory over the Flying Squirrels in amateur baseball action, Thursday night.

Jamison Honkomp reached base safely in all five plate appearances for the Cubs, batting 1-for-1 with four walks and three RBIs.

Rhett Zelinsky added three hits in the win including a walk, two doubles, and one RBI.

Lukas Adelman earned the win for the Cubs, throwing six shutout innings of relief, giving up just two hits, two walks while striking out six.

For Sioux Falls, Drew Talberg took the loss, giving up four hits, a walk, and five runs in one inning pitched.

Carter Brown led the way in the hits column for Sioux Falls, going 2-for-4 with a double.

Kyle Gulbrandson batted 1-for-3 with two walks and two RBIs in the loss as well.


Colome Chaos 7, Chamberlain Mallards 3

COLOME — The Chaos scored five runs over the final two innings to stun the Mallards in Pony Hills League amateur baseball action, Thursday night.

The Chaos collected 13 hits in the win, with four batters having multi-hit games.

Carter Brickman went 3-for-5 with a double, Jake Luse batted 3-for-5 with a double and 2-RBIs, Ethan Vobr added two hits, and Kevin Carter went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI as well.

Carter Dye, Riley Orel and Layton Thieman each added hits in the win as well.

Luse earned the victory on the mound, giving up nine hits, two walks, and three runs while striking out six batters in a complete game outing.

For Chamberlain, Mike Schwartz took the loss on the mound, giving up six hits and five runs in two innings pitched.

Evan Stiener and Rayden Haak tallied two hits apiece in the loss for the Mallards.

The Chamberlain offense was highlighted by a solo home run from Dakota Munger, who also tallied two walks in the loss.


Canova Gang 19, Flandreau Blue Teal 3 (8 innings) 

FLANDREAU — Jared Miller drove in six runs to power the Canova Gang to a Cornbelt League amateur baseball win on Thursday.

Miller finished 4-for-5 and smacked two home runs, including a three-run shot in the eighth inning. Caleb Carmichael went 3-for-6 at the plate and drove in four runs for Canova, which pounded out 17 hits. Tim Gassman and Tucker Gassman had two hits apiece. Tyler Genzlinger earned the win for Canova, surrendering five hits on one run through five innings, striking out three batters and issuing zero walks. 

For Flandreau, Tanner Christenson had a team-high two hits in four at-bats. Mason Riley took the loss after allowing nine earned runs on eight hits, while walking seven batters and striking out three batters in five innings. 


Wessington Springs Owls 5, Plankinton Bankers 1

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Parker DeJean struck out seven batters as Wessington Springs picked up a Cornbelt League amateur baseball win on Thursday.

DeJean allowed four hits, zero earned runs and walked three batters through five innings. Cade Mohling led the Owls with three hits. Drew Olinger drove in two runs, while Trevor Kenobbie, Clay Olinger, Dylan Schimke and Camden Jost each had hits. 

For Plankinton, Thomas Stange logged three for the team’s six hits. Kane Knudson, Drew Gerlach and Blaine Bohr added hits. Stange took the loss, allowing six hits, three earned runs, two walks and striking out 10 batters in seven innings. 


Winner Demons 5, Burke Bombers 2

WINNER — Winner’s pitching duo combines for 17 strikeouts as the Demons defeated the Bombers in Pony Hills league action Thursday night.

Ethan Bartels earned the victory on the mound, throwing 7.1 innings, allowing three hits, four walks, and one earned run while striking out 13.

Justin Hausmann came on in relief to record the final five outs, striking out four while walking five, giving up a run.

Kayleb Brozik, Pierce Nelson, and Shane Phillips each tallied hits in the win.

For Burke, Hunter Van Niewenhuyse took the loss in four innings of work, giving up three hits, three walks, and five unearned runs to go along with 10 strikeouts.

Brogan Glover, Aaron Sundquist, and Dan Jons each tallied hits for Burke in the loss.

The Bombers defense committed five errors in the loss.


Platte Killer Tomatoes 17, Parkston Devil Rays 7 (8 innings)

PARKSTON — The ‘Mators rack up 16 hits en route to a mercy rule victory in Sunshine League action Thursday.

The Killer Tomatoes got off to a hot start in this one, scoring 11 runs in the first three innings.

Richard Sternberg, Hunter Hewitt, and Mason Townsend all had big nights at the plate for Platte, Sternberg batted 3-for-6 with a double and a solo home run, Hewitt went 2-for-4 with two walks, a home run, and four RBIs, while Townsend went a perfect 4-for-4 with two walks, a double and a home run.

Preston Nedved added three hits, two doubles, and three RBIs, and Jarod Severson went 2-for-6 with three RBIs as well.

Travis Gant earned the victory on the mound, giving up six hits, three walks, and two runs in six innings of work.

For the Devil Rays, Jonah Schmidt took the loss, allowing six hits, four walks, and eight runs in 1.1 innings pitched.

Seth Muth and Logan Heidinger led the team in hits with two apiece, with Muth adding a walk and an RBI and Heidinger driving in two runs.

Schmidt drove in three runs on one hit and one walk, while Landon Sudbeck, Caleb Titze, Isaak Bialas, and Adam Doering each tallied hits in the loss.


Dimock-Emery Raptors 12, Corsica Horned Frogs 9 (10 innings)

CORSICA — Dimock-Emery plated three runs in the 10th inning to earn a Sunshine League amateur baseball win on Thursday.

Peyton Nash, Drew Kitchens and Gene Kitchens logged three hits apiece for Dimock-Emery, which logged 17 total hits. Sam Pischke posted two hits and drove in four runs. Gene Kitchens knocked in three runs. Chase Arend and Colton Plagmann had two hits apiece. Doug Sudbeck and Phil Johnson each added hits. Josh Engquist struck out four batters, allowed four earned runs, five hits and walked two batters through four innings. Johnson struck out five batters, allowed two hits and zero runs in four relief innings. Drew Kitchens struck out four batters, allowed three earned runs, three hits and walked one batter in two relief innings. 

For Corsica-Stickney, Luke Bamberg and Ryan Buck had two hits apiece. Logan Bakker drove in three runs. Kris Menning, Aaron Groeneweg, Blake Moke, Nathan Blom and Gavin Zomer each had hits. Brendan Wentland allowed 11 hits, eight earned runs, walked two batters and struck out three batters in five innings for the loss.
