Parkston, Ethan among games to watch at DWU/Culver's Classic

The girls DWU/Culver’s Classic is Friday, Feb. 14 at the Corn Palace. 

The nine-game classic starts with Potter County vs. Howard at 9 a.m., while Sioux Falls Christian plays Lyman at 9 p.m. in the nightcap. 

All Games will be streamed exclusively online as Pay-Per-View via LiveTicket.tv at dwu.liveticket.tv. Viewers can purchase each game for $9.99 apiece. 


Here’s a look at three games to watch: 


Dell Rapids St. Mary vs Hamlin

This matchup will feature some dynamic guard play. 

Class A No. 5 Hamlin is powered by all-state junior guard Addison Neuendorf, who pushes the pace for the Charger attack. Hamlin is also powered by Addie Steffensen, Issie Steffensen, Jo Steffensen and Addie Jensen. 

Addie Steffensen tossed in 18 points in Hamlin’s 55-35 win over Aberdeen Roncalli on Feb. 11. Neuendorf (14 points), Jensen (12 points) and Jo Steffensen (10 points) also paced the Chargers. 

The Cardinals counter with senior guard Madala Hanson, who poured in 38 points in a 73-58 win over Arlington on Feb. 10. Hanson hit five of the team’s nine 3-pointers. Jenna Miller added 16 points and four 3-pointers for the Cardinals. 


Parkston vs Ethan

Two teams down the road from Mitchell will collide at the Corn Palace. 

Class B No. 2 Parkston has adjusted well to their move from Class A, and it is among the top contenders in the class. Parkston’s two defeats have come against Class A powers Wagner (57-55) and Vermillion (55-54). 

The Trojans are on a three-game winning streak, including a 49-47 win over Class B No. 5 Sanborn Central/Woonsocket. Parkston features a balanced-scoring attack, led by Berkley Ziebart, Keeara Oakley and Mya Thuringer. 

Ethan, which is honorable mention in the latest Class B poll, has dropped games against Andes Central/Dakota Christian (49-48), Centerville (55-47) and Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (45-27) this season. The Rustlers did defeat Class A foe Wagner (47-43) on Jan. 7. 

Ethan is paced by Taziah Hawkins, Rachel Klock, Marissa Storm and Ella Pollreisz. 


Sioux Falls Christian vs Lyman

The nightcap features two title contenders, one from Class A and one from Class B.

Sioux Falls Christian is No. 2 in Class A, while Lyman is No. 3 in Class B. 

The Chargers feature a balanced-scoring attack, led by Ruth Dvoracek, Avery Reitz, Maya Nelson, Emory Lems, Lezlei Setzer, Katie Vander Leest and Sydney Schaap. 

Sioux Falls Christian’s lone defeat was a 53-38 setback against Vermillion on Feb. 6. The Chargers own wins over Class A powers Lennox, Elk Point-Jefferson, Hamlin and Dakota Valley.

The Raiders counter with sisters Mak Scott and Jordyn Scott, along with key contributors Bree Smart, Brooke Palmer and Brooke Montgomery. Lyman has lost against ranked teams Parkston and Vermillion. 

The Raiders beat Bennett County, which is honorable mention in the latest Class B poll, and Class B No. 5 Sanborn Central/Woonsocket in back-to-back games in December.
