Philip boys, Wall girls win Western Great Plains Conference titles

KADOKA — The Philip Scotties boys distance runners shined at Thursday’s Western Great Plains Conference track and field meet. 

Philip’s Baylor Burns won the 1,600-meter run (4:52.36), followed by teammates Jack Peterson (4:58.11) and Trey Larson (5:03.42). 

Philip’s Wakely Burns won the 3,200-meter run (10:30.84), followed by teammates Peterson (10:43.16) and Aidan Craven (11:31.12). 

The Philip boys also won the 3,200-meter relay (8:31.09) and sprint medley relay (3:54.83). 

Philip’s Layton Terkildsen cleared 6-1 to earn the high jump championship. 

The Philip boys won the team title with 185.5 points, finishing ahead of Bennett County (79) and Jones County (67). 

Wall’s Dawson Handcock won the long jump (20-6) and teammate Austan Kjerstad placed first in the triple jump (37-9.25). Kjerstad and Handcock were on the winning 800-meter relay (1:35.79). 

Wall’s Brodi Sundall won the 800-meter run (2:04.79) and was also on the winning 800-meter relay team. 

Kadoka Area’s Lincoln Koehn won the discus (184-2) and shot put (54-10). 

Bennett County’s Rush O’Neill earned first-place finishes in the 110-meter hurdles (:15.22) and 100-meter dash (:11.39). O’Neill also ran on the winning 400-meter relay (:45.69). 

Tyce Gropper won the 300-meter hurdles (:42.47) and also ran on the winning 400-meter relay team. 

Jones County’s Asa Best won the 200-meter dash (:23.33) and was on the winning 1,600-meter relay (3:39.51). 

Jones County’s Kaden Kinsley won the 400-meter dash (:53.64) and was also on the winning 1,600-meter relay team. 

Lyman’s Aksel Ehlers won the pole vault (10-6). 

In girls action, Wall won the girls team title with 165 points, ahead of Bennett County (119) and Philip (106). 

Kadoka Area’s Landyn Koehn won the shot put (32-11) and placed second in the discus (127-9). 

White River’s Maleena Brave cleared 5-3 to win the high jump, finishing ahead of Bennett County’s Peyson O’Neill (5-1). Brave’s mark of 5-3 is currently the best in Class B. 

O’Neill won the 100-meter hurdles (:15.22) and 300-meter hurdles (:45.32). 

Bennett County’s Reagan O’Neill captured first-place finishes in the long jump (17-7.5), 100-meter dash (:12.34) and 200-meter dash (:25.33). 

The O’Neill sisters were on the winning 400-meter relay (:50.92). 

Wall’s Paige Kjerstad won the 400-meter dash (1:02.79) and was on the winning 800-meter relay (1:51.38). 

The Philip girls won the 1,600-meter relay (4:36.36), 3,200-meter relay (11:02.94) and sprint medley relay (4:40.78). 

Philip’s Rainee Snyder earned a first-place finish in the pole vault (8-6).
