SIOUX FALLS — Jeffery Boschee soared to one last high jump state championship on Saturday.

The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket senior won the Class A state high jump championship, clearing six-feet and six-inches at Howard Wood Field. It concluded a prep track and field career that included three Class A state championships.

“Not a lot of people do that,” Boschee said. “I gotta do it. So it’s a lot of fun. … It just feels good to get it. You leave everything out here.”

Boschee admitted afterward pressure mounted with every state title and also praised his competitors for pushing him on to succeed.

“Anything can happen,” Boschee said. “There could be a few guys that have PRs that are six feet that will jump all the way up to 6-5. So anyone could have done that.”

On Saturday, Boschee and Custer’s Carter Tennyson were the last two competitors in the field. They were the last two jumpers to clear 6-5, but Tennyson failed to surpass 6-6 and Boschee cleared it on his three attempts.

“It did get down to two pretty quick,” Boschee said. “I was mentally preparing myself this morning, last night, the rest of the week and everything. But it all comes down to whoever jumps higher.”

With the state title in hand, Boschee attempted 6-7.5. But was unable to clear the height.

He still captured his third Class A state high jump championship before he headed to compete for the Northern State University track and field team.

“They reached out and I think it will be a lot of fun going up there,” Boschee said.
