Sept. 22 Cross-Country Roundup - Flandreau, Clark/Willow Lake capture Clark Invitational titles

CLARK — The Flandreau boys and Clark/Willow Lake girls took team titles at Thursday’s Clark Invitational. 

The Flandreau boys finished with 13 points, finishing ahead of Madison (21) and Tri-State (32). The Clark/Willow Lake girls recorded 15 points, edging out Flandreau (18) and Madison (25) for the team title. 

Individually, Tri-State’s Kaleb Foltz won the boys 5,000-meter race in 16 minutes and :30.82 seconds at Clark Municipal Golf Course. Madison’s Dylan Gerdes (17:26.28) and Flandreau’s Tanner Reed (18:00.59) placed second and third, respectively. Flandreau’s Lurick Dailey (18:00.95) and CWL’s Cooper Pommer (18:11.35) rounded out the top-five runners.

On the girls side, Flandreau’s Faith Wiese (19:29.24) was the individual winner. Waubay/Summit’s Madison Zirbel (19:39.15) and CWL’s Kamryn Nesheim (20:37.21) were second and third, respectively. Flandreau’s Kiley Westberry (21:15.59) and Madison’s Jessie Tappe (21:17.87) rounded out the top-five finishers. 


Brandon Valley sweeps Brookings cross-country meet

BROOKINGS — The Brandon Valley cross-country teams swept the team titles at Thursday’s Russ Strande Invitational. 

The Brandon Valley boys recorded 37 points, finishing in front of Aberdeen Central (57) and Harrisburg (63). The Brandon Valley girls logged 30 points, finishing ahead of Harrisburg (50) and Mankato West (101). 

Individually, Harrisburg’s Cashton Johnson won the 5,000-meter race in 16 minutes and :02.61 seconds at Edgebrook Golf Course. Brandon Valley’s Mikah Peters (16:40.88) and Tino Lopez (17:01.29) were second and third, respectively. Brandon Valley’s Tyler Groen (17:02.28) and Aberdeen Central’s Christian Wells (17:02.97) rounded out the top-five runners.

Brandon Valley’s Addison Scholten covered the 5,000-meter race in 18:28.94 to win the race. Harrisburg’s Addison Reilly (19:13.64) and Mankato West’s Landree Quint (19:20.77) were second and third, respectively. Brandon Valley’s Shelby Bergan (19:24.40) and Sarah VanDeBerg (19:27.19) rounded out the top five.
