WATERTOWN — Bison/Hettinger/Scranton’s Allison Kahler won the Class B individual state championship on Tuesday at Cattail Crossing Golf Course. 

Kahler shot a two-day total of 151, including a second-day low of 75 on Tuesday and won the state title by five shots over the second-place finisher. 

Clark/Willow Lake’s Brynn Roehrich (156) finished second, while the Miller duo of Kaihlyn Anderberg (158) and Jayce Pugh (158) tied for third place. Chester Area’s Ayla McDonald (159) rounded out the top-five golfers. 

One year after finishing second, Chester Area won its first-ever Class B state golf title on Tuesday. Chester Area carded a two-day total of 498, holding off defending state champion Bison/Hettinger/Scranton (503). Miller shot a 514 to earn the third-place finish.

Gregory boys capture second straight Class B title

WATERTOWN — The Gregory Gorillas earned their second consecutive Class B boys golf state championship on Tuesday.

The Gorillas shot a 474 at the two-day tournament at Watertown’s Prairie Winds Golf Club. Hanson (503) and Sully Buttes (507) rounded out the top-three teams. Gregory is the first Class B boys golf team to repeat as state champs since Aberdeen Christian in 2016 and ‘17. 

Individually, Gregory’s Eli Fogel shot a second day-low 73 to earn medalist honors by one shot. Fogel carded a 78 on Day 1 and finished with a total score of 151, edging McIntosh’s Wyatt Larson (152) for the title. 

Sully Buttes’ Gavin Colson (153) and Wessington Springs’ Blake Larson (160) finished third and fourth, respectively. Gregory’s Trey Murray, Hanson’s Ben Wilber, Castlewood’s Lane Tvedt and Selby Area’s Tray Hettick all tied for fifth place with 161s. 


Sioux Falls Christian secures second consecutive Class A title 

RAPID CITY — Sioux Falls Christian earned its second straight Class A girls golf state championship on Tuesday.

The Chargers shot a 687 at Rapid City’s Meadowbrook Golf Course. Sioux Falls Christian is the first Class A team to repeat since Parkston won titles in 2012-16.

The Chargers finished ahead of conference foe Vermillion (695) and St. Thomas More (709). 

St. Thomas More’s Rylan Horning was the individual medalist, shooting a 156 to win by six shots over Canton’s Olivia Sorlie. Horning fired a 74 on Tuesday to highlight her tournament. 

Sorlie, last year’s state champ, shot a 162 and carded a 77 on Tuesday. Dakota Valley’s Katie Betsworth (164), Vermillion’s Stephanie Carr (168) and Sioux Falls Christian’s Tori Peterson (170) rounded out the top-five golfers. 


Mitchell captures first-ever girls golf state championship

PIERRE — Mitchell’s steady climb atop Class AA golf reached the pinnacle on Tuesday.

The Kernels, who placed second the past two seasons, won their first-ever girls golf state championship at Pierre’s Hillsview Golf Club. The Kernels shot a two-day total of 616, finishing ahead of conference foe Aberdeen Central (619) for the title. Rapid City Stevens (634) took third place. 

Individually, Huron’s Bryn Huber and Mitchell’s Allison Meyerink were tied with 145s after the two rounds. Huber won in a playoff to earn individual medalist honors. Huber fired a second-round low 70 on Tuesday to surge into a tie with Meyerink, who shot a 75 on Day 2.

Aberdeen Central’s Olivia Braun (148) and Mitchell’s Quinn Dannenbring (149) shot third and fourth, respectively. Huron’s Olivia Rink and Rapid City Stevens’ Lauren Knapp tied for fifth place with 150s.
