State Golf Roundup - Watertown, Dakota Valley lead after Day 1 of state tournaments

WATERTOWN — Watertown holds a five-shot lead after Day 1 of the Class AA state boys golf tournament on Monday. 

Playing at Cattail Crossing Golf Course, the Arrows shot a 6-under 282 and leads conference foe Pierre by five shots. Harrisburg (290), O’Gorman (294) and Brandon Valley (296) round out the top-five teams. 

Individually, Watertown’s Ty Lenards fired a 6-under 66 and holds a three-shot lead over three other golfers. Lenards’ round was highlighted by six birdies and a 32 on the front nine. 

Harrisburg’s Charlie Swift, Pierre’s Nicklaus Bothun and Tea Area’s Derek Andersen are tied for second place with 69s. O’Gorman’s Drew Simon (70) rounds out the top-five golfers.

Logan Collette’s 75 paces Dakota Valley to Day 1 lead at Class A 

HARTFORD — Behind Logan Collette’s 75, Dakota Valley has opened up a 10-stroke lead after Day 1 of the Class A state boys golf tournament on Monday.

Playing at Central Valley Golf Course, the Panthers carded a 314 and leads second-place Vermillion by 10 shots. Sioux Falls Christian (327), St. Thomas More (329) and Aberdeen Roncalli (334) round out the top-five teams. 

Individually, Collette and Milbank’s Jonathan DeBoer are tied atop the leaderboard with 75s. Collette’s round was highlighted by a pair of birdies and a 37 on the back nine. DeBoer carded three birdies and also shot a 37 on the back nine. 

Sioux Falls Christian’s Harper Schnabel and St. Thomas More’s Vincent Vanliere are tied for third place with 76s. Canton’s Carson Steffensen (77) rounds out the top-five golfers.
