 Nov. 22 State A Volleyball Roundup - Miller edges Mount Vernon-Plankinton to reach consolation finals

Miller 3, Mount Vernon-Plankinton 1

SIOUX FALLS — Miller pulled back from an early deficit to defeat Mount Vernon-Plankinton in four sets during Friday’s State A volleyball tournament. The set scores were 21-25, 25-14, 26-24, and 25-18.

Miller’s Aleah Schlechter powered the Rustlers to victory with 15 digs, 14 kills, and three blocks. Kate Lichty had 10 kills, 10 digs, and three blocks, Paige Werdel had nine kills, eight digs and three aces, Kaihlyn Anderberg tallied nine kills and 13 digs, Olivia Resel had 44 assists and 13 digs, while Jolie Palmer led Miller in digs with 29.

MVP’s Reagan Rus tallied 18 kills and 16 digs, Madalynn Lorang had 13 kills and 18 digs, Alyssa Johnson dished out 27 assists and 21 digs, Alexis Hauge had 22 digs, while Taryn Hegg recorded six digs, four blocks, and three kills in the loss.

Miller advances to the consolation championship Saturday at 12:45 p.m. against No. 7 Sioux Valley, while MVP awaits No. 6 Winner at 11 a.m. in the seventh place match.


Sioux Valley 3, Winner 2

SIOUX FALLS — No. 7 Sioux Valley outlasted Winner to advance to the consolation championship during Friday’s State A volleyball tournament action. The set scores were 22-25, 25-14, 25-19, 25-13, and 16-14.

Kaedyn Sapp powered the Cossack victory with 18 kills and 16 digs, Sunny Hesby dished out 24 assists and 30 digs, Adison Renkly totaled 12 kills, four digs, and seven blocks, Keyra Kruse and Lacey Langland each had seven kills, combining for eight assisted blocks, Emma Gorvin had eight kills, five digs and three blocks, Caitlin Russell tallied 25 digs, while Machaela Gerasch had 20 assists and four digs in the victory.

Winner’s Keelie Kuil had 17 kills and 15 digs in the loss, Gracie Root dished out a game-high 44 assists and 11 digs, Cora Moss had 31 digs, Livvy Audiss tallied 14 kills and seven digs, Lilly Barfuss had 10 kills and 10 digs, Cora Moss had 31 digs while Alice Wilson totaled 26 digs in the loss for the Warriors.

Sioux Valley faces Miller for the Class A consolation championship at 12:45 p.m., while Winner moves to the seventh place match to take on Mount Vernon-Plankinton at 11 a.m.


Dakota Valley 3, Sioux Falls Christian 2

SIOUX FALLS — No. 4 Dakota Valley outlasted No. 8  Sioux Falls Christian Friday, advancing to the State A championship game. The set scores were 19-25, 28-26, 25-20, 15-25, and 16-14.

DV’s Claire Munch was dominant at the net tallying 31 kills and 25 digs, Madelyn Munch dished out 40 assists, 18 digs, five aces and three blocks, Samantha Kimbell had 12 digs, seven kills and aces, Reagan Granstrom recorded 28 digs and six assists, Aubree Worden had seven kills and eight digs, while Coryn Kimbell and Emersen Mead combined for 19 digs in the win.

SFC’s Brietta Tims had 25 kills, 26 digs, two blocks, two assists and two aces, Rachel Dieleman tallied 16 kills and nine blocks, Jayla Overman recorded 11 kills and two aces, Addisen Barber had 54 assists, nine digs and five kills, while Aubrie VanBeek totaled 11 digs and an ace in the loss.

Dakota Valley will play for the Class A state championship Saturday at 6:45 p.m. against No. 3 Dell Rapids, while Sioux Falls Christian moves to the third place game and will take on No. 2 Hamlin at 5 p.m. Saturday.

SIOUX FALLS — No. 3 Dell Rapids left no doubt in the state semifinals, sweeping Hamlin to advance to Saturday’s championship game. The set scores were 25-11, 25-9, and 25-16.

DR’s Madelynn Henry tallied 10 kills, four digs, three aces and four assists, Lauryn Kloth had five kills, five blocks and two aces, Sophi Randall recorded 20 assists, eight kills and eight digs, Clara Justice had a game-high seven aces, while Karlie Ingalls racked up five aces, five digs, and five kills in the win.

Hamlin’s Addie Steffensen tallied six kills, three digs and two assists, Addison Neuendorf recorded four kills and six digs, Talayna Opdahl had three kills, while Issie Steffensen totaled 10 assists and three aces in the loss.

Dell Rapids will face No. 4 Dakota Valley for the State A volleyball championship at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, while Hamlin goes for third place against Sioux Falls Christian at 5 p.m.
