MITCHELL — Mount Vernon/Plankinton’s Berkeley Engelland and Reed Rus captured a pair of first-place finishes at Thursday’s Mitchell Indoor Invitational at the DWU Avera Sports & Wellness Complex.

Engelland won the 60-meter dash (:08.03) and 800-meter run (2:15.48). She also ran the anchor leg on MVP’s first-place 800-meter relay (1:53.09) and 1,600-meter relay (4:16.84) teams. 

Rus was a double winner in the 60-meter hurdles (:08.80) and high jump (6-0). 

Watertown’s Juven Hudson was a double winner in the 60-meter dash (:07.16) and 200-meter dash (:24.39). 

Ethan/Parkston’s James Deckert was a double winner in the triple jump (43-2) and long jump (21-11). 


Lennox boys, Dakota Valley girls claim titles at Vermillion Booster Club Invitational

VERMILLION — The Lennox boys and the Dakota Valley girls claimed team titles at Thursday’s Booster Club Invitational in Vermillion. 

The Lennox boys finished with 119 points, finishing ahead of West Central (99) and Vermillion (68). 

Dakota Valley scored 96 points, ahead of Tea Area (82) and West Central (81). 

Lennox’s Layne Kuper won the 110 meter hurdles (:15.64) and the 300 meter hurdles (:41.92). Lennox’s Cody Peterson won the discus (140-5) while Drake Mikkelsen won the 400 meter dash (:55.38). Lennox’s medley relay also earned a win (3:56.06). 

Dakota Valley’s Sophia Redler won the 800 meter run (2:23.25) and the 1,600 meter run (5:27.63). Claire Munch also won the triple jump (32-6).
