Larchwood Diamonds (Iowa) 16, Wessington Springs Owls 6 (7 innings)

MITCHELL — Larchwood pounded 19 hits as it defeated Wessington Springs in the second round of the State B tournament Sunday.

Josh Van Beek batted 3-for-3 with three RBIs, Keaton Grevengoed tallied three hits and two RBIs, while Micah Linn, Cody Groskruetz, Jacob Kindhart, Brent Ripperda, and Gavin Lorenzen each tallied two hits, combining for 10 RBIs.

Korey McKenney took the victory on the mound, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks in 1.2 innings.

For Wessington Springs, Mason Schelske allowed six runs on six hits and two walks in 1.2 innings.

Trevor Kenobbie batted 3-for-4 with a double, homer, and two RBIs, Camden Jost drove in two runs on a hit, Thomas Stange (Plankinton pick-up player) drove in a run on one hit, while Blake Larson tallied two hits and a walk in the loss.

Larchwood plays the Dimock/Emery Raptors in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Dimock/Emery Raptors 8, Castlewood Ravens 7

MITCHELL — Dimock/Emery rallied back from a four-run in the ninth to earn a walk-off victory over Castlewood in State B tournament action Sunday.

Sam Pischke batted 4-for-4 with a walk and four RBIs, Phil Johnson tallied two hits and two RBIs, Colton Plagmann drove in a run on one hit and one walk, while Drew Kitchens and Peyton Nash each tallied hits in the win.

Kitchens earned the victory on the mound in one inning of shutout relief.

For Castlewood, Gus Steiger took the loss allowing five runs on two hits and three walks in 0.2 innings, striking out two.

Steiger batted 3-for-5 with a walk, Alex Gauer drove in two runs on two hits, including a double, Blayne Schliesman tallied two hits, while Kegan Tvedt drove in a run on one hit in the loss.

Dimock/Emery advances to the quarterfinals to face Larchwood on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. with the win.

Four Corners 13, Crofton Blue Jays (Neb.) 10

MITCHELL — Brad Hand drove in four runs as Four Corners defeated Crofton in the opening round of the State B tournament Sunday.

Hand batted 3-for-6 with two doubles, a triple, and four RBIs, Jack Van Camp tallied three hits and two RBIs, Garret Stout drove in two runs on a triple, Noah Hainy and Justin Lester tallied two hits and an RBI, River Iverson tallied three hits, while Andrew McCloud and Sam Hand each tallied a hit and an RBI in the win.

Hainy allowed four runs on six hits and six RBIs in 6.1 innings, striking out eight.

For Crofton, Ben Hegge allowed five runs on six hits and three walks in six innings, striking out three.

James Kaiser had two hits, a walk, a grand slam, and four RBIs, Devin Hegge tallied two hits and two RBIs, Lee Heimes drove in a run on one hit, while Seth Wiebelhaus, Jared Wiebelhaus, and Marcus Van Driel (Irene pick-up player) each tallied a hit and two walks in the loss, including a triple by Van Driel.

Four Corners advances to the second round and will face Garretson on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.


Garretson Blue Jays 8, Corsica Horned Frogs 1

MITCHELL — Aaron LaBrie tossed 10 strikeouts in a State B first round victory over Corsica Sunday.

LaBrie allowed three hits and a run in nine innings, striking out 10 batters.

Trey Buckneberg batted 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Nick Bonte had two hits and two RBIs, Robin Chute had three hits, two doubles, and an RBI, Tayson Swatek drove in two runs, while Dustin Steckler had an RBI-single as well.

For Corsica, Blake Moke allowed seven runs on nine hits and two walks in 6.1 innings.

Ryan Buck, Brady Cristoffels, and Caleb Crist each tallied hits in the loss.

Garretson moves on to the second round and will face Four Corners on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.


Brookings Cubs 13, Rapid City Diamondbacks 6

BROOKINGS — Brookings drove in 13 runs on 14 hits as the Cubs defeated the Diamondbacks in State A tournament action Sunday.

Chase McDaniel tallied three hits, a double, a walk, and three RBIs, Tyler Kruetner drove in two runs on two hits, Jake Ammann had a double, two walks, and two RBIs, Jamison Honkomp tallied three hits, a double, and an RBI, Rhett Zelinsky drove in two runs on one hit and one walk, while Henry Hammrich tallied three hits and a walk in the win as well.

Zach Shastay earned the victory on the mound, allowing five runs on five hits and five walks in seven innings, striking out six.

For Rapid City, Walker Paz took the loss allowing six runs on nine hits and six walks in six innings, striking out six.

Jesse Riddle hit a three-run homer, Jed Sullivan drove in a run on two hits, Harry Good tallied an RBI on a walk, while Paz tallied two walks and a hit in the loss as well.


Renner Monarchs 7, Aberdeen Circus 6

BROOKINGS — Renner struck for three ninth-inning runs to stun Aberdeen in State A tournament action Sunday.

Dave Borchardt drove in three runs on two hits and two walks, including a double, Aiden Ladd tallied two hits, a double, and two RBIs, Maddux Baggs had two RBIs on a hit, while Ben Ihrke, Adam Durfee, and Josh Baumgart each tallied hits in the win.

Baumgart earned the victory on the mound in two shutout innings of relief, allowing one hit and one walk, striking out two.

For Aberdeen, Jon Baker allowed three runs on two hits and three walks in one inning.

Casey Vining drove in three runs on three hits, including a triple, while Baker, Kelly Coates, Jesse Babcock, and Wolf’ Don Thorson each tallied hits in the loss.
