Kenosha, Wis., — A handful of South Dakota athletes competed in the Foot Locker Midwest Regional Championships run Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, WIsconsin. 

Brandon Valley junior Mikah Peters was the top South Dakota finisher in the Championship division, covering the 5,000-meter course in 15-minutes and :48 seconds to claim 27th place. Dell Rapids runner Josh Fletcher finished 64th (16:15), Sioux Falls Jefferson’s Jack Wagoner finished in 82nd place (16:31) and Mitchell’s Hunter Patton was 129th (17:46).

Three South Dakota athletes competed in the Boys Junior/Senior race with a pair of Dupree athletes both finishing in the top-50. Dupree’s Spencer Olson finished in 17th place (17:43) and his Dupree teammate Tayshaun Cudmore was 41st (19:01). Corsica’s Benjamin Gerlach finished 52nd (19:28). 

Yankton’s Luke Jacobsen finished 75th in the freshman/sophomore race (20:24). 

The 2024 Foot Locker Cross Country Nationals will be held on December 14 at Balboa Park in San Diego, California. The top ten finishers from each regional championship race qualified for the national finals. 

There were no South Dakota female cross-country runners in any of the three divisions at Saturday’s Midwest Regionals.
