The Canistota School District held a fundraiser for Viborg-Hurley senior Kobee Sherman, who was diagnosed in March 2023 with osteosarcoma cancer in his knee that has spread to a spot on his clavicle, vertebrae, and lungs. The cancerous condition prevented Sherman from continuing to play high school sports.

On Tuesday, Jan. 30, Canistota hosted Viborg-Hurley for a boys and girls basketball doubleheader and raised $5,006, with proceeds going to benefit Sherman’s family.

The Canistota basketball teams wore T-shirts in support of Sherman, with a group picture of Canistota and Viborg-Hurley girls and boys basketball players, coaches and cheerleaders taken in between games. The Canistota student body dress-up theme was "Yellow for Kobee".

The fundraiser included Mrs. Jolley raffling off some of her famous “Jolley Jerky”, a 50/50 raffle, FCCLA Coffee Shop donating their proceeds, the foreign exchange program raffle donation and T-shirts for sale.

DA Designs has reopened their site at the request of people who want to order more shirts. Proceeds from those additional shirts sold will also be going to Kobee and his family.
