Elk Point Jefferson 53, St. Thomas More 50

SIOUX FALLS — Devon Schmitz’s running 3-pointer at the buzzer helped Elk Point Jefferson knock off St. Thomas More Thursday in the first round of the Class A state tournament Thursday.  

Schmitz knocked down six 3-pointers and finished with 18 points, three rebounds and two assists. Evan Fornia added nine points and four rebounds while Easton Kempf chipped in with seven points. 

Caleb Hollenbeck made six 3-pointers and led St. Thomas More with 32 points, six rebounds and two steals. Will Green added seven points while Lee Neubebauer scored six points for the Cavaliers. 


Hamlin 72, Sioux Valley 64

SIOUX FALLS — Four players scored in double figures as Hamlin knocked off Sioux Valley in the first round of the Class A state tournament Thursday. 

Easton Neuendorf powered Hamlin with 22 points, four rebounds and seven assists. Tyson Stevenson added 19 points while Evan Stormo finished with 12 points and four rebounds. Brennan Keszler chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds. 

Oliver Vincent led Sioux Valley with 31 points, four rebounds and six assists. Alec Squires added 11 points and nine rebounds for the Cossacks. 


Dakota Valley 80, Hot Springs 47

SIOUX FALLS — Three players scored in double figures as Dakota Valley topped Hot Springs on day one of the Class A state tournament. The Panthers have now won 51 straight games. 

Randy Rosenquist’s triple double of 11 points, 10 rebounds and 16 assists powered Dakota Valley. Isaac Bruns finished with 24 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Sam Faldmo added ten points and four rebounds for the Panthers. 

Camron Maciejewski led the Bison with 11 points and three rebounds while Preston Iverson chipped in with ten points. Braden Peterson and Aidyn Janis each scored eight points for Hot Springs. 


Sioux Falls Christian 83, Mount Vernon-Plankinton 55

SIOUX FALLS — Four players scored in double figures as Sioux Falls Christian upended Mount Vernon/Plankinton in the first round of the Class A state tournament Thursday. 

Cole Snyder led the Chargers with 19 points, three rebounds, two assists and six steals. Ethan Bruns added 15 points and ten rebounds. Britton Mulder added 15 points while Griffen Goodbary added 10 points for Sioux Falls Christian.

Reed Rus finished with 30 points and nine rebounds to lead Mount Vernon-Plankinton. Jason Hetland added six points while Jordan Stoltz and Blaine Bohr scored five points apiece.
