The South Dakota state record holder in the 100 meter dash (:10.45), Jaden Guthmiller of Spearfish is off to a quick start this season. He is cranking out some big times in the western part of the state as evidenced by his state-leading (:10.50). Guthmiller ran his state record at the 2022 Howard Wood Dakota Relays and won the event. 

The Class AA 400-meter dash just got interesting this week. Jefferson’s Griffin Wilde has the Class AA lead (:49.51) with Lincoln sprint sensation Griffin Fischer (:49.76) right behind. Aberdeen Central’s Drew Salfrank also dipped below 50-seconds this week with a :49.99. 

We have a new leader in the 300-meter hurdles clubhouse this week as Roosevelt’s Vaughn Brown has the best mark in Class AA (:40.06). Should be a really tight event at the state meet this year with Aberdeen Central’s Aiden Heimann (:40.28) and Brandon Valley’s Aaron VanHemert (:40.79) all capable of winning the Class AA title. 

A couple of big marks in the Class AA throws this week as Washington’s Kael Miedema uncorked the seventh best discus mark in South Dakota history (191-7). Pierre’s Jason Maciejczak has a discus best of 181-3 and a shot put best of (60-9) that leads all of South Dakota.
