Dec. 21 Lakota Nation Invitational Boys Roundup - Todd County captures Makosica championship

Todd County 65, Cheyenne-Eagle Butte 52

RAPID CITY — Three players scored in double figures as Todd County won the boys Makosica championship at the Lakota Nation Invitational on Saturday.

Todd County’s Chris Ellert finished with 16 points and seven rebounds. Rueben Iron Horse recorded 15 points and 11 rebounds. Ciante Black Spotted Horse finished with 12 points. Kendrik Easter added eight points and six rebounds. Oniya Whirlwind Soldier finished with five points and five rebounds. Ty Valandra had seven points. 

For CEB, Easton Lawrence recorded 19 points and 10 rebounds. Austin Johnson had eight points, while Damien Clown had seven points. Nehemiah Veaux added six points and six rebounds. 


Santee 78, White River 47

RAPID CITY — Three players scored in double figures as Santee, Nebraska, placed third in the boys Makosica bracket on Saturday at the Lakota Nation Invitational. 

Santee’s TaSunka Starlin recorded 26 points, while Christian Torrez added 23 points. Akesha Starlin had 15 points.

For White River, Teagen Bouman finished with 19 points and four rebounds. Bryson One Star added 15 points, seven rebounds and four 3-pointers. 


Lower Brule 75, Omaha Nation 69

RAPID CITY — Three players scored in double figures as Lower Brule placed fifth in the boys Makosica bracket on Saturday at the Lakota Nation Invitational. 

Lower Brule’s Payton Palmier finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Kristian Antelope added 12 points. Nate Middletent finished with 11 points. Lane Gray logged eight points. Jason Thompson and Connor Charger scored six points apiece. Charger added six rebounds.

For Omaha Nation, Keelan Kaaihue scored 24 points. 


McLaughlin 60, Tiospa Zina 37

RAPID CITY — John Eagle Jr., and Boston Miller paced McLaughlin to a seventh-place finish in the boys Makosica bracket on Saturday at the Lakota Nation Invitational. 

Eagle Jr., finished with 13 points and 12 boards. Miller added 10 points, four rebounds and three 3-pointers. Trevor Iron Shield logged nine points and five rebounds. 

For TZ, Ashden Sierra logged 17 points, six rebounds and three 3-pointers. Devon Bluehorse scored five points and grabbed five rebounds. 


Custer 56, Lakota Tech 23

RAPID CITY — Kyle Virtue netted 27 points to power Custer to a Lakota Nation Invitational boys basketball win on Saturday. The Wildcats finished third place in the Oceti Sakowin bracket. 

Virtue logged 27 points, four steals, four rebounds and three 3-pointers. Rhett Lowe and Cody Dirkes scored eight points apiece. Dirkes added six rebounds and three steals. Ayden Petz had seven rebounds and three steals.

For Lakota Tech, Treyton Sam recorded nine points. Julian Tonche added six points and five rebounds. 


Wakpala 66, Tiospaye Topa 38

RAPID CITY — Lane Cadotte’s 41-point performance powered Wakpala to a Lakota Nation Invitational boys basketball win on Saturday. The Sioux finished fifth in the He Sapa bracket. 

Cadotte finished 15-of-21 from the field and buried 11 3-pointers, the fifth-most made 3-pointers in a South Dakota high school boys basketball game. Tavaughn Steele recorded 10 points and eight rebounds. Jaunito Ducheneaux and Bretten Wells scored five points apiece. Lawrence Gooden had nine rebounds. 

For Tiospaye Topa, Jakolby Rousseau finished with 15 points. Andrei Hojas added eight points and five rebounds. Bailee Hall recorded eight rebounds. 


Lower Brule 75, Omaha Nation 69

RAPID CITY — Three players scored in double figures to pace Lower Brule to a fifth-place finish in the Makosica boys bracket at the Lakota Nation Invitational on Saturday.

Lower Brule’s Payton Palmier finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Kristian Antelope logged 12 points. Nate Middletent posted 11 points. Brent Hood and Lane Gray posted eight points apiece. Jason Thompson and Connor Charger scored six points apiece. Charger added six rebounds. 

For Omaha Nation, Keelan Kaaihue recorded a game-high 24 points. Keesan Kaaihue posted 13 points, eight assists and six steals. Dason Romo posted 13 points and eight rebounds. 


Dupree 60, Marty 51

RAPID CITY — Three players finished in double figures as Dupree defeated Marty for the He Sapa boys bracket championship.

Cruz Birkeland tallied 18 points and 11 rebounds, Braydon Terveen-Smith added 13 points, 11 rebounds and three assists, Spencer Olsen totaled seven points and two steals, while Roper Eaton tallied five points and five rebounds in the win.

Marty’s Greg Zephier tallied 22 points and six rebounds, Amaziah Zephier totaled 13 points and five rebounds, Steven Peters had seven points and seven rebounds, while Tyson Cournoyer added five points and three rebounds in the loss.


Crazy Horse 53, Crow Creek 46

RAPID CITY — Jacob High Horse’s 16-point outing lifted Crazy Horse over Crow Creek for third place in the boys He Sapa bracket Saturday.

High Horse finished with 16 points, seven rebounds and a block, DeVaughn Between Lodges added 12 points, five rebounds, five steals and two assists, Terrell Ashley had 10 points and three steals, Bradley Martin totaled seven points, while Jeremiah Kills In Water had six points and two steals in the win.

CC’s King Rencountre tallied 16 points and 13 rebounds, Bryson Drapeau had 12 points, five rebounds and four steals, Walter Gipson recorded nine points, four rebounds and five steals, while Jevjaun Gibson had five points and five rebounds in the loss.
