MITCHELL — With mother nature canceling several high school track meets early in the week athletes flocked to Mitchell Thursday to compete indoors. Thursday’s meet, held at the Avera Sports and Wellness Complex turned into a major event with some events having well over 100 entrants. 

Dell Rapids St. Mary senior Lucas Flemmer was a double-winner in boys action winning the 60-meter dash (:7.15) and 400-meter dash (:50.94). The Mitchell boys won the 1,600-meter relay (3:37.27) and 3,200-meter relay (9:01.50). White River’s Ethan Watson won the shot put with an eye-popping (58-03). 

Bennett County eighth-grader Reagan O’Neill won the 60-meter dash (:7.79) and the 200-meter dash (:26.5) and the 60-meter hurdles :9.35. O’Neill finished second in the long jump with a leap of 17-05. Mount Vernon/Plankinton’s Berkeley Engelland won the 800-meter run (2:18) and Chamberlain’s Kinsey Evans won the mile run (5:21) and 3,000 meter run (10:58)
