SIOUX FALLS — The Quarriers are back in the ‘ship.

Last season Dell Rapids lost in the State B semifinals to Bon Homme/Avon, 5-0, after the 2023 Player of the Year Riley Rothschadl threw a no-hitter.

In a full-circle moment, this season it was Dell Rapids throwing the no-hitter in a 5-0 win over Parkston in the semifinals.

Despite having Jack Henry, the 2024 Class B player of the year available, Dell Rapids head coach Danny Miller elected to go to his 6-foot-6 junior left-hander Tad Tjaden to start Day 2.

“It was Tad all along,” said Miller. “He pitched against Parkston earlier this year, and sometimes  you think ‘We don’t want to show him twice to the same team,’ but he only gave up one hit then.”

Tjaden, falling just one out shy of the complete game no-hitter, allowed four walks and one hit-by-pitch in the victory.

Along with Tjaden’s 2-0 win against Parkston on April 23, he also threw two innings last season against this same Trojan team in a 17-4 victory during the regular season.

“It was the same battle as last time,” Tjaden said. “I couldn’t find the strike zone right away, and my fastball wasn’t there but my slider was.”

Konrad Richeal came on to record the final out of the no-hitter.

The Quarriers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a lead-off triple by Henry, followed by an RBI-sacrifice bunt by Treyse Eastman.

Henry was also intentionally walked on two separate occasions in the win.

Despite being held to just four hits in the win, Dell Rapids took advantage of five walks, four hit-by-pitches, and seven wild pitches to sneak in the final four runs.

For Parkston/Ethan/Tripp, Luke Bormann took the loss on the mound, issuing three hits, four walks, four hit-by-pitches, and three earned runs while striking out seven in five innings pitched.

Taite Klumb threw the final inning for the Trojans, allowing one hit, one walk, and two runs.

Parkston/Ethan/Tripp ends its season with a 12-5 record.

For the Quarriers, Lincoln Fersdahl led the team in hits with two, while Treyse Eastman and Henry each tallied hits in the win.

The Quarriers will take on the winner of Mount Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney and Howard in the Class B state championship at 6:35 p.m. at Ronken Field in Sioux Falls.
