SIOUX FALLS — It wouldn’t feel like a Class B state track meet if the Deubrook Area Dolphins weren’t fielding competitive 3,200-meter relays.

For a second consecutive year, the Dolphin boys and girls both won the 3,200-meter relay. An outstanding anchor carry from Gavin Landmark helped the Dolphins secure the win (8:17.68). The Dolphin girls won the Class B 3,200-meter relay (9:47.11).

The Deubrook girls also finished second in the sprint medley relay and lead the Class B girls race with 18 points, ahead of Menno (13). Potter County and James Valley Christian are tied with 11 points while Scotland and Chester both have 10 points.

The Chester foursome of Jacy Wolf, Lizzie Peterson, Emmerson Eppard and Emery Larson won the sprint medley relay (4:18.24) while Herreid/Selby Area had the top qualifying time in the 400-meter relay (:51.06).

In other girls action, Scotland’s Trinity Bietz won the shot put (40-6.25) and Menno’s Ashton Massey won the triple jump (35-9.75)

As expected the Class B boys team race is tight after day one. Freeman Academy/Marion and Deubrook Area are tied with 14 points while Chester has 13 points. Menno, Northwestern and Gregory each have 12 points.

The Gregoy boys won the sprint medley relay (3:44.73) with the foursome of Luke Stukel, Paul Sinclair, Pierce Stukel and Finn Adams.

Ipswich senior Trevor Heinz won the long jump (22-6.75) and the Tigers also had the top qualifying time in the 400-meter relay (:44.10).

In field event action, White River’s Ethan Watson won the shot put (58-3) and Burke’s Iker Diaz Montilla won the triple jump (43–11.75).
