Dimock-Emery keeps rolling with first round win

MITCHELL — Doug Sudbeck’s single in the bottom of the eighth scored Sam Michels to lift Dimock-Emery past Castlewood 4-3 during Wednesday’s opening round of the South Dakota State Amateur Baseball Tournament.

The Raptors took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth before watching Castlewood score three runs in the next half inning to take a 3-2 lead. Dimock responded in the bottom half of the inning to tie it at 3-3.

Jason Schmidt picked up the win, pitching a complete game while giving up three runs on six hits and striking out 11.

Kellan Benck took the loss for Castlewood. He pitched eight innings giving up four runs on seven hits.

Sudbeck led the Raptors with two hits while Blayne Schliesman added two hits for Castlewood.

Earlier in the day Milbank advanced to play Dimock with an 8-4 win over Platte.

Justin Larson picked up the win for the Firechiefs while Grant Lang took the loss for Platte.

The tournament continues on Thursday with Menno and Redfield DQ followed by Clark and Plankinton Bankers will conclude the afternoon session. The night session will feature Akron and Mount Vernon followed by Tabor and Flandreau.
