Elkton-Lake Benton boys, Flandreau girls claim Region 2A track and field titles

ELKTON — The Elkton-Lake Benton boys and Flandreau girls captured team titles at Wednesday’s Region 2A track and field meet. 

The Elks accumulated 165 points to win the region title, finishing comfortably in front of Flandreau (125.5). The Flandreau girls recorded 154 points to slip past Sioux Valley (150.5) placed second. 

Elkton-Lake Benton was paced by Isaac Jaacks who won the 110-meter hurdles (:15.61) and 300-meter hurdles, (:40.80). Tanner Drietz was also a double winner for the Elks winning region titles in the long jump (18-8.5) and triple jump (40-9.25). Jack Hemmen won the region title in the discus with a throw of (149-6).

The Flandreau boys picked up region titles from Alex Anderson in the 100-meter dash (:11.13) and 200-meter dash (:22.49). The Fliers also won the 800-meter relay (1:33.98). Deubrook Area’s Treven Grimsrud won the 400-meter dash (:51.18) with Jaxon Quail winning the 1,600 meter run (4:42.47). The Dolphins also won the 1,600 meter relay (3:33.89) and the 3,200 meter relay (8:32.74).

On the girls side, Flandreau’s Lizzie Pavlis won the 100-meter dash (:13.22) and Ella Hoffman won the 400-meter dash (1:04.48). Faith Wiese was a double winner in the 800-meter run (2:33.30) and the 1,600 meter run (5:21.37). The Fliers also won the 800-meter relay (1:51.21) and the 3,200 meter relay (10:08.54).

Sioux Valley’s Adison Renkly won the 100-meter hurdles (:15.51) and 300-meter hurdles (:49.66). Kamryn Schwartz was also a double winner for the Cossacks winning the long jump (15-5.75) and the triple jump (34-3).

Hamlin won two region titles with Kami Wadsworth winning the shot put (40-7.75) and Gracelyn Leiseth the discus (150-4).
