Huron - The Huron meet features teams from Aberdeen Central, Beresford/Alcester-Hudson, Bon Homme/Avon, Dell Rapids, Hamlin Castlewood, Huron, Milbank, Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington, Winner Area and Yankton

Huron News & Notes: 

  • Top Match: In the (145) weight class Huron’s Moses Gross (Class A No. 2) could meet (Class A No. 3) Mason Schrempp of Aberdeen Central. 

  • Red Hot Wrestler: Winner Area’s Karson Keiser has been on a tear. After winning the Lee Wolf Invitational Keiser won last weekend’s Big Dakota Conference tournament and now finds himself ranked Class B No. 2 (132). 

  • Family Bloodlines: Keep an eye out for Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey Wessington’s Keegan Haider at the Huron meet. Haider’s father Kevin, who is the coach for WS/W/WW was a two-time state champion for Redfield and was once named the outstanding wrestler of the Class B state tournament. 


Badlands Brawlers Invitational sets the stage for west river wrestlers

WALL — This tournament features teams from Belle Fourche, Bennett County, Cheyenne-Eagle Butte/Dupree/Douglas/Rapid City Christian/New Underwood, Harding County, Hot Springs, Lakota Tech, Little Wound, Lyman, McLaughlin, Newell, Philip/Kadoka Area/Wall Badlands Brawlers, Rapid City Central and Todd County.

  • Top Match: Class A No. 4 (220) Rocky Wiedeman (Todd County) could meet up with Harding County’s Grey Gilbert, Class B No. 3 (220). These two met in the quarterfinals of the Rapid City Invitational way back in December with Gilbert eking out a narrow win. 

  • Who wrestlers 106 for the Badlands Brawlers: For the past month we’ve watched as Carter Kendrick climbed the rankings in this weight class. Last week Tukker Boe (7th at the 2022 Class B state tournament (106)) wrestled for the first time this year and jumped into the Class B rankings at No. 4 this week. 

  • Athletes to watch: Pine Ridge’s Semni Big Crow has been hovering in the Class A Honorable Mention rankings (145) for the past few weeks. Bennett County sophomore Gavin Risse went ove the 100 career win plateau last week. He is currently ranked Class B No. 7 (126).
