Feb. 23 Boys Basketball Roundup - No. 1 Mitchell tops O'Gorman in regular-season finale

Mitchell 60, Sioux Falls O’Gorman 50

SIOUX FALLS — Class AA No. 1 Mitchell concluded a 19-1 regular season on Friday. 

Mitchell’s Gavin Soukup tossed in a game-high 23 points, hit four 3-pointers and grabbed seven rebounds. Colton Smith totaled 19 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Markus Talley had 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Gavin Hinker added five points and eight rebounds. 

O’Gorman’s Nyun Dut scored 14 points, while Caleb Terveen posted 13 points. Austin Terveen logged 11 points. Hayden Groos had five points, four rebounds and three assists.

White River 61, Lakota Tech 58

PINE RIDGE — Class B No. 2 White River outlasted Lakota Tech for a boys basketball win on Friday.

White River’s Jordan Uhlir scored a team-high 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Nic Marshall added 22 points and nine assists. Ray Crow added eight points. Evastine Wright logged five rebounds. 

Lakota Tech’s Gavin White tossed in 30 points and hit five 3-pointers. Riley Casey scored 10 points, while Mackenzie Cass and Julian Tonche had seven points apiece. 


Avon 81, Burke 67

AVON — Three players scored in double figures to pace Avon to a boys basketball win on Friday.

Avon’s Landon Thury logged 34 points and nine rebounds. Aziah Meyer added 18 points and four rebounds, while Trace Pelton posted 16 points and seven rebounds. Al Gunter had seven points.

Burke’s Reed Benter scored 20 points, while Bryce Bartling added 10 points. Sam Steele scored nine points and Dawson York added five points.


Winner 56, Mobridge-Pollock 45

MOBRIDGE — Four players scored in double figures to pace Winner to a boys basketball win on Friday.

Winner’s Carter Craven logged 19 points and 13 rebounds. Shawn Hammerbeck added 14 points and 11 boards. Ryder Halligan had 12 points, while Aiden Barfuss posted 11 points and four rebounds. 

For Mobridge-Pollock, Simon Fried had 12 points. Jackson Eisemann and Kellen Pfitzer scored eight points apiece. Michael Wald had seven points, while Shane Henderson had six points and six rebounds. 


Clark/Willow Lake 64, Arlington 29

CLARK — Three players reached double-figures as Clark/Willow Lake ran past Arlington in boys basketball action Friday. 

Sullivan Felberg paced the Cyclones with 16 points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal. Emmerson Larson had 14 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Aaron Zemlicka chipped in with 10 points and four rebounds. 

Riley Miller led Arlington with 13 points and five rebounds. Paxton Rheault and Miles Antonen each had five points for the Cardinals.


Hitchcock-Tulare 66, Northwestern 57

TULARE — Big nights from Erik Salmen and Jackson Maynard lifted Hitchcock-Tulare to a boys basketball win over Northwestern Friday. 

Erik Salmen and Jackson Maynard both posted double-doubles to lead the Patriots. Salmen delivered 35 points and 10 rebounds. Maynard delivered 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Stats for Northwestern were not reported.


Iroquois/Lake Preston 61, Sunshine Bible Academy 40

IROQUOIS — A big night from Josh McMasters helped Iroquois/Lake Preston close their regular season with a win over Sunshine Bible Academy. 

McMasters poured in 30 points while grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out four steals. Lucas Peskey also had a strong outing with 13 points, eight rebounds, four steals and two assists.

Stats for Sunshine Bible Academy were not reported. 


Waubay/Summit 59, Sioux Falls Lutheran 25

SUMMIT — Three players scored in double figures to pace Waubay/Summit to a boys basketball win on Friday.

Waubay/Summit’s Jackson Wohlleber scored 19 points, while Traveion Neilan had 13 points. Camden Neilan scored 12 points and Dylan Rumpza added seven points. 

For Sioux Falls Lutheran, Grant Prouty had 11 points. Muoch Jud scored seven points.

 

Jones County 66, New Underwood 45

MURDO — Three players scored in double figures to pace Jones County to a boys basketball win on Friday.

Jones County’s Cooper Feddersen logged 17 points and nine rebounds. Jett Nix and Kaden Kinsley scored 14 points apiece. Nix added 10 boards and Kinsley hit four 3-pointers. Gunnar Whitney had seven points. Bryer Kinsley had nine points on three 3-pointers. 

New Underwood’s Eli Kelley scored 13 points. Jaxon Fulton scored nine points.


Leola/Frederick Area 69, Ipswich 46

IPSWICH — Leola/Frederick Area jumped out to a 18-4 first-quarter lead en route to a boys basketball win on Friday.

Leola/Frederick Area’s Noah Kippley logged 27 points and hit five 3-pointers. Brayden Sumption added 17 points and nailed four 3-pointers. Westyn Thorpe posted seven points, while E. Petrich added six points and three rebounds.

Ipswich’s Chet Peterson had 15 points and five rebounds. Jace Konsor logged 13 points, five rebounds and three 3-pointers. Kyle Hettich had nine points and four rebounds. Xavier Kadlec logged five points and six rebounds. 


Faith 83, Wall 72

WALL — Faith held off Wall for a boys basketball win on Friday.

Faith’s Jackson Schauer tossed in a game-high 38 points.

Dell Rapids St. Mary 66, Bridgewater-Emery 65

DELL RAPIDS — Dell Rapids St. Mary clipped Bridgewater-Emery for a boys basketball win on Friday.

Dell Rapids St. Mary’s Maverick LeBrun posted 22 points, while Trimmier Hanson had 20 points. Trevon Beckman and Nic Gaspar scored 12 points apiece.

BE’s Jase Kayser scored 19 points and Ben Weber added 17 points. 


Viborg-Hurley 57, Madison 53

MADISON — A balanced scoring attack helped Viborg-Hurley to a road win over Madison in boys basketball action Friday. 

Nick Hanson paced Viborg-Hurley with 17 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Bryson Morrison added 12 points and seven rebounds. Brady Schroedemeier added eight points and four rebounds while Owen Niederbaumer chipped in with six points.

Shane Veenhof led Madison with 14 points. Ben Brooks added 12 points, four rebounds and seven steals. Charles Callahan chipped in with 10 points and four rebounds. 


Sioux Falls Christian 90, Tri-Valley 55

SIOUX FALLS — Class A No. 1 Sioux Falls Christian coasted past Tri-Valley for a boys basketball win on Friday.

Sioux Falls Christian’s Griffin Goodbary recorded 27 points, while Cole Snyder had 17 points. Britton Mulder and Carson Nickles scored 13 points apiece.

Tri-Valley stats were not reported. 


Sioux Falls Jefferson 65, Aberdeen Central 34

SIOUX FALLS — Sioux Falls Jefferson jumped out to a 19-8 first-quarter lead en route to a boys basketball win on Friday.

Jefferson’s Dawson Sechser logged 18 points, while Damaris Fields had 11 points, three 3-pointers and three assists. Jase Unzen scored nine points. Daniel Jones and Mason Payne posted eight points apiece. Braylon Bear added six rebounds, four assists and three points. 

For Aberdeen Central, Camden Fauth and Cam Olson scored eight points apiece. Parker Lemer had five points and four rebounds. Grant Fritz posted four points and seven rebounds. Jett Carlson and Colby Dauwen scored five points apiece. 


Sioux Falls Lincoln 57, Rapid City Central 26

RAPID CITY — Sioux Falls Lincoln cruised past Rapid City Central for a boys basketball win on Friday.

Lincoln’s Sam DeGroot logged 25 points, five rebounds and five 3-pointers. Sam Ericsson scored 12 points, collected four rebounds and hit three 3-pointers. Tate Schafer posted nine points on three 3-pointers. Edison Noll had five rebounds.

For Central, Jet Janvrin scored 12 points. Isaiah Whiting scored five points. 


Girls Basketball Roundup 

Rapid City Central 58, Sioux Falls Lincoln 29 

RAPID CITY — Rapid City Central’s Mari Colhoff and Lolo Carlow combined for 29 points to pace the Cobblers to a girls basketball win on Friday.

Colhoff had 17 points and hit three 3-pointers. Carlow added 12 points. Villique Fallis and Tracelyn Strand scored eight points apiece. Leah Landry logged six points and five rebounds. Aaliyah Jones had seven points.

Lincoln’s Kierra Lubovich posted six points and seven rebounds. Ruby Hennies added five points.
